It is absolutely unreasonable to think that I could actually watch all 31 (or 33) films in a month (or even 6 weeks for that matter...especially as I will be touring Europe with students for two of those weeks), and it is for this reason that I've hitherto abstained from taking part in Hoop-tober. The deaths of George Romero and Tobe Hooper happening within a six weeks span of each other, however, has fused me with feelings of such sadness and nostalgia, that I simply can't help myself.

In my later elementary/early junior high years, I aspired to be a horror filmmaker, and, in spite of the fact that life has failed to lead me down that path, my biggest inspiration at that point in my life by far was Romero, who was the first director whose presence and voice made an impression on me. At the same time, Texas Chainsaw Massacre was far and away the scariest, most memorable (and best) film that I had seen in my younger years (I know...definitely too young for that one). Thus, Romero and Hooper were two of the most influential voices in my early life, and to this day I have a great degree of fondness for both men and their work.
In what can only be an insufficient attempt to be a part of something that is so honoring to these guys, I'm going to try to take part in what seems to be the funnest, most interesting film marathon letterboxd users participate in. Many thanks to Cinemonster (letterboxd.com/cinemonster/) for hosting again. I'm so glad this is a thing.
With the exception of the Evil Dead series, which I'm going to try to rewatch this month with my good friend Kyle (letterboxd.com/therabbidcow/) and the original IT mini-series (as I'm going to try the bonus round, if I make it through the other 31 that is), I'm going to limit my list to first time watches. It will be hard to abstain from another viewing of TCM and Dawn of the Dead in honor of those departed heroes, but I think I'd rather spend my time watching movies of their's that I haven't seen.
Once again here are the rules (per Cinemonster):
QUICK EASY RULES:
6 sequels (mix-and-match. 6 total)
6 countries
6 decades
6 films from before 1970
6 films from the following: Carpenter, Raimi, Whale, Browning, Craven, Tom Holland (mix-and-match, or all one)
3 people eating people (non-zombie)
1 Hammer Film
1 Romero Dead film
1 terrible oversight (use the following link, filter out the films you've seen and picked the highest rated film from the list that you can get ahold of) letterboxd.com/films/genre/horror/by/rating/size/small/
And 2 Tobe Hooper Films (There must ALWAYS be a Hooper film)
***FOR THOSE THAT LIKE TO DO EXTRA WORK: WATCH THE ORIGINAL AND REMAKE OF IT. YOU WILL RECEIVE A SHOUT OUT IN NEXT YEARS HOOP-TOBER. JUST LET ME KNOW WHEN YOUVE FINISHED ALL 33***
-review them all.(eek)
Clearly one film can satisfy multiple criteria. Viewing and reviewing will begin at 12:01am cst on Sept 15th.
Looking forward to watching movies with you all and checking out your reviews.
