Well...I failed at this. But that's okay because I only failed at an arbitrary criteria that was really just designed to push me into watching more sweet ass sweet horror flicks that I had been putting off for far too long. And I ended up watching 19 of those bad boys. So this has been changed to a ranking of those 19. Because otherwise it looks patchy and weird.
What'd I learn from it? That watching a movie forcibly and just for a contractual agreement really changes it's context and makes it harder to enjoy. I think I already knew that from before but being reminded of it in a genre of movies I never thought I'd get…

What'd I learn from it? That watching a movie forcibly and just for a contractual agreement really changes it's context and makes it harder to enjoy. I think I already knew that from before but being reminded of it in a genre of movies I never thought I'd get sick of makes me feel like the dummy kid at the fair who thinks he can eat 19 ice cream sandwiches, and then when he tries to, he barfs all over the tilt-a-whirl operator. I always think that I can beat and subdue the overwhelming anxiousness that sometimes crashes over me when I'm faced with problems both big and small, with my defiance and fighting spirit. And on paper, I usually can. But it's a different feeling I get when I "win" at something like that. I don't feel like I did it right and I don't bask in the afterglow as if it was something done properly. As I get older, it's finally sinking in that doing something just to do another thing after it isn't as satisfying as doing something I actually savor and enjoy. The completest in me is dying. So this being unfinished doesn't bother me like it used to. Is that feeling good? Bad? I guess it's a horse a piece. But enough rambling creeps. Watch some flicks.
ORIGINAL POST:
Howdy folks. I've noticed a term being referenced quite a bit on here over the last few years that I've never really understood coined "Hooptober". Now I'm as big a fan of hoop earrings as the next guy, but I never would have fathomed associating an entire month to them. And October! The best month! That would mean you'd have to dress up as a pirate every Halloween!
But, like most cool things, this "Hooptober" was actually a celebration of scary movies and the lineage of kindly horror auteur Tobe Hooper that circulated via the letterboxd tagging system. And also like most cool things, I was on the outside of it, in the rain, peering longingly through the window like Bukowski in Ham on Rye.
But not this time, pal.
As I've found myself in the right place and right time, with a proper heads up and rundown on all the rules and knowledge that this beast of a challenge comes with, I've assembled a list using Cinemonster's Hooptober Criteria, which can be found here
Will I watch all of these in the given time? Probably not. Will I watch more than 1 of them? Probab-LEE. I know my reputation is that I never finish anyth...
But, I've got heart. And I'm always more motivated and "on fleek" when I'm somebody to shove. Guide me into our hallowed month, gentle demons. I am but your humble proxy.
