It's not long until October begins and with it Halloween comes into full swing. A time in which being scared and watching disturbing, disgusting and demented films is considered normal. That's where Cinemonster's annual horror movie challenge comes in. Hoop-Tober has become a phenomenon within the Letterboxd community, and now it's in its fourth form.
This is of course brilliant news, I've been a keen follower of Hoop-Tober since the beginning. But in sadder news, the horror maestro who inspired this event, the one and only Tobe Hooper, passed away. Not only him, but 2017 also took the man who made the undead walk. George A. Thanks to Hoop-Tober I've been introduced to these brilliant genre directors, and I'm sad to say that this isn't just a fun list anymore, but a tribute to these brilliant directors.
Like the previous 3 years, there are some rules to follow:
6 sequels (mix-and-match. 6 total)
6 countries
6 decades
6 films from before 1970
6 films from the following: Carpenter, Raimi, Whale, Browning, Craven, Tom Holland (mix-and-match, or all one)
3 people eating people (non-zombie)
1 Hammer Film
1 Romero Dead film
1 terrible oversight
2 Tobe Hooper Films (There must ALWAYS be a Hooper film)
And all of them must be reviewed.
If I'm feeling a bit lucky then there's extra credit. Watch both iterations of Stephen Kings' It.
Last year I unfortunately didn't complete the challenge. School and life definitely got in the way, and this year it's looking to be the same. So, just a word of warning, I may not complete this. But this should be fun anyway. So without further ado, I hope everyone has an amazingly scary time and good luck!
