I Am Sono Sion!

The amount of effort I put in to watch this film was really not worth it. What follows is an accurate account of my endeavours to try and observe this 36 minute short film.

The story starts off with me finding the whole 36 minute film accompanied with subtitles on YouTube. How perfect, the only problem is that the subtitles are out of sync. It's only a few seconds so I persevere and continue watching. It becomes apparent soon after that the subs are getting more and more out of sync as the film goes on. And so after 10 minutes the subtitles are playing 3 scenes ahead. Of course I stop watching.

Months go by and I decide to try my luck again. I try to gain access to the subtitle track and see if I can move it along the timeline of the film. This can't be done. So I open up the transcript of the film and try and read along. But this got really tedious immediately and so I gave up again.

Then I notice a comment under the film talking about how they used VLC Player and moved the subs there. So of course I downloaded myself the VLC Player and played the YouTube video on there.

Next problem. For whatever reason the subtitles dont carry over, and so I copy the transcript into the notepad app, and save it as a SRT file. Finally I have the film and moveable subs to watch the film.

Now doing all this took me hours and I had lost my motivation to watch the film by this point. But at least everything was set up for me to watch in the future.

Skip a few more months and I'm ready to watch the film. I open up VLC Player. I click the film aaaaaaaand nothing. It does not play. I google around and follow a step by step YouTube video and downloading a "lua" (no idea what it is). After its downloaded you need to delete it, and VLC Player should work. Amazingly this did infact work and eventually the film began.

Pressing "H" delayed the subtitles 50ms, and so was getting pressed alot. And as the subs get more and more out of sync I would be pressing it for most of the film.

About 10 minutes in I'm doing pretty well but then the beginning of the end occurs.

At about 15 minutes two characters screech into the mic for about 5 minutes. It's hard enough to make out what sounds they're creating. And so it's impossible to tell if the subtitles of this "conversation" are in time as its indecipherable.

Getting past this scene after a few restarts follows about 10 minutes with dialogue. I was happy that I didnt have to worry about delaying the subs for the time being. But realisation hit hard when a subtitle appeared on the screen and the dialogue didnt follow for about 2 minutes. And so I timed the difference in subs to dialogue and delayed the subs accordingly.

Next problem. I reached the scene after the 10 minutes of no dialogue and the subs have now disappeared. I have no idea where they have gone. At this point I have delayed the subtitles 82150ms and I am 28 minutes in.

I'm almost there. I close VLC and try again delaying the subtitles back to what I had and skipping to 28 minutes in. The subtitles still do not play.

It is now 9am and I haven't went to bed yet. I am too tired to try and sort this out. I will watch the last 7/8 minutes when I wake up.

I wake up and realise how to fix the problem. I put the film to 26 minutes and then delay the subs 82150ms. This is so the film can catch up.

Final stretch 5 minutes to go and the screen is black and there's no audio whatsoever. The subtitles keep playing and they fit with what is happening. (The film has ran out of film) Luckily the film ends like this and doesnt continue with another scene as I think I would've gave up trying to sync the subtitles after this point.

And that is that. That is my tale of how I was able to watch this short film. I would not recommend going out of your way to watch this.
