this is kinda fucked up? in 2018 it plays like a nightmare parody of all the cool post-emo indie boys who tortured women across the world in the early 2000's, full of quirky little stop motion and ukulele and "ironic" mullets and nerdy t-shirts - it's pretty cute, yeah, and funny too, but it seems oblivious to the absolutely scorching commentary it's almost making, and so the dude is just another dick who coasts through the rest of his life feeling like a victim and telling girls he didn't show up because he had a little touch of depression. this would probably play better to someone who didn't spend 2004 - 2008 crying and chainsmoking and texting emotionally unavailable boys all night - hearing m. ward's cover of "let's dance" practically gave me war flashbacks.
