Cons:
- Poorly handled slavery subplot that simultaneously manages to distract from the story and detract from the gravity of slavery, especially sexual slavery
- Blander romantic lead than most Austen heroes, also they're first cousins
- Sooooo many interesting dynamics between the different characters that have potential but are never explored, but maybe that's Austen's fault (not that I'd speak a word against her)
Pros:
- Costumes!!
- One of the most impeccable, complex, and overlooked bad boys in all of literature and he gets so much screentime
- Embeth Davidtz, especially the choice to make Mary queercoded, as her relationships with men (and there are many) are completely devoid of any romance or sex, she's clearly using them…
