Sublime. It just goes to show that when you put morticians and punks together the pieces just sort of fall into place. Nature’s Companions.
Do you want to party? No!? Too bad, it’s party time!
Another stupendous offering from the 80’s. The Return of the Living Dead is an exhilarating jaunt of undead fun. Dan O’Bannon (creator of Alien) delivered a one, two knock out punch of comedy and horror with endlessly quotable lines. The idea of an Unkillable zombie that runs is just shit your pants kind of scary, let alone a horde of them.
So many standout performances from the likes of scream queen Linnea Quigley, Clu Gulager and James Karen that had me running around screeching like a rabid weasel. When the Director offers to eat real calf brains with the actors, then you know you have something special.
Is it the best zombie film? I think arguably so. “ It’s not a bad question, Burt.“
Linnea Quigley naked, drenched in acid rain dancing on a gravestone openly wishing a bunch of zombies would start biting and eating her alive is a level of partying I can only strive for.
This movie is that started the obsession of horror for me. At the time when it came out I was in high school and had been watching horror for 10 years but I have seen this movie more than other horror movie. For me this is the best horror comedy. You may ask why is it not in my favorites. It was in my favorites for a year and a half and I recently changed my favorites and it will most likely be rotated back in sometime. The reason why I became obsessed was because of Linnea Quigley character Trash. In the early 80s I was a punk/metal fan and would have killed to have a gf like Trash.

Surfin' dead.
Gosh, the nuance and detail of the characterization in this zombie comedy is way above the norm. It always takes me by surprise. Not to mention the *tremendous* gore effects, which lend a gross-out edge and an existential reckoning to its highlight reel of zany antics. Brains to keep the pain at bay.
This movie is like a refreshing beverage. It's easy going down and I could enjoy it any time. It's known for it's graveyard punks but it's the blue collar adults that interest me the most. They have the best lines and the most endearing relationships. They know who they are and their sincerity shines. I don't fully understand or care about Freddy, but I look at Frank and I know this man.
There's never been anyone better at training a person for a job than Frank. Please employ me, Frank. I don't care what the job is, I will do it. And when mortality strikes, Frank accepts his fate. He kisses his wedding ring because he loves his goddamn wife.…
