It’s fun to see Cabin in the Woods done earlier by people with actual affection for the genre. It’s nice that this came out in 2006 and was able to hit before the Obama era with its “that just happened”s and its epic bacons. It’s easy to imagine a version of this movie released 3-4 years later that’s just completely unwatchable. But they got it in before the buzzer. Good on them. Unfortunately 2006 is a double edged sword and there’s a shot of a murder victim where it’s basically impossible not to notice that he’s wearing bootcut jeans.

A novel and quite surprising take on Slasher film conventions. Not only does it deeply respect the films that it's riffing off of, but it attempts to reconfigure their successes into something mundane and tiresome. A day in the life of a horror icon in the making. The final 30 minutes are so refreshing. Too bad they couldn't do this with Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers, but Leslie Vernon makes for an interesting composite, and it's often gorgeous to look at.

First revisit in quite some time and it’s just as fun and enjoyable as I remembered... with a fine cast, exquisite setup, and killer payoff. 

I don’t revisit this often—choosing to to savor this every other year or so, but never the less it holds a special place for me... by 2004 I had lost three grandparents in a three month span and still lingering family losses/being in the heart of ground zero during 9/11 were hitting me hard so I went into a self imposed exile from horror for a few years. I needed a break with all the torture porn and bad vibe Dubya years, and tbh when I finally started to get back to being my former self this and House of the Devil totally reignited my love for the genre. So basically, this one’s special for me.

Side note: Robert Englund as a Dr. Loomis Ahab character is one of my favorite things.

I like Todd. Also, this comedy slasher mockumentary is the fucking best.

I remember watching this with a friend when this first came out so I decided to finally revisit it. Wow. I forgot how good this is. 

So many nice touches in this movie, they really do a wonderful job paying tribute to some classics. Some were subtle in the background or with names while others were slap you in the face noticeable. I really liked the Red Rabbit Lounge in the background when talking about Michael Myers. Also Robert England does a pretty good impersonation of Dr. Loomis. 
There were so many that I’ll have to check this out again soon and see how many more I missed. 

This is another great movie that if you haven’t seen or it’s been awhile definitely check it out or watch it again.

Good movie.

The guy who played Leslie reminded me a lot of Michael C. Hall, which is kind of ironic. Seeing Robert Englund take on a heroic role was hilarious for me as a fan of the Elm Street series... also, my mom's name is Leslie so THANKS OBAMA for making me scared of my own mom, jeez.
