Really surprised this alien abduction horror jam isn’t better received! You’ve got one of the directors of The Blair Witch Project delivering some terrifying scenes, an engaging story, an endearing cast of total losers, and a shockingly well made creature given that this was a low budget film.
It’s honestly one of my favorite films of its kind. I’m not huge on alien abduction stuff so this would probably sit nicely in my top 3. I looooooooove how all of the guys have been dealing with this alien thing for years and the girlfriend has only been dealing with it for about 10 minutes and she’s just like “fuck this shit, y’all need to nut up”. Who run the world??? Holla at me.
Who would win? A group of bickering rednecks or 1 green manlet alien?
Seriously, that alien is like 4 feet tall. It was kind of funny to watch.
I love me some creature features so discovering a new one is always cause for celebration. Our little green man is one nasty piece of work. He’s mean, is a champion at intestine tug-o-war, and has the the writing on his side to help him escape sticky situations.
I really do love his design though. He’s got that classic alien look with his green skin, large eyes, short stature, but also has a wicked cool mouth/forehead vagina that peels back to reveal his vicious teeth. It’s a cool monster for your creature…
Can someone who's seen this please help me out - what the hell are the final words to come out of the mouth of Hope (Catherine Mangan)? I replayed it about 4 times and still couldn't decipher it! Something something something Wyatt?
Altered is a low budget creature feature with admirable dedication to crafting practical effects - easily the highlight - hamstrung by a confused plot, inconsistent lore and idiotic decision-making from all the characters.
After flipping the script and abducting an alien (the pay-off of a fifteen year-long vendetta), the rag-tag crew of Duke, Otis and Cody take refuge in their buddy Wyatt and girlfriend Hope's garage with a trussed-up EBE, debating whether or not to kill the thing.…
After years of plotting since an abduction experience as teens, four survivors successfully ensnare an extraterrestrial, but conflicting interests and the vengeful being's defenses spoil their best laid plans.
Blair Witch co-director Eduardo Sánchez's first directorial effort is as if David Cronenberg became smitten with Fire in the Sky (1993). The leader of the group, whose brother was killed by their captors, seems impervious to the alien's tactics of mind control and sharp teeth of necrotic consequence. Resentment bubbles up giving the beastie leeway to loosen its shackles. Now they face a super pissed off-world creature that can't be killed for fear of an all-out invasion.
Altered's quieter moments are its most impactful. Characters carry paranoia of another encounter and…
Some redneck friends abduct an alien but they have no idea what to do with it. 👽
Yes i had a fun time, the creature and the practical effects were goOod. What lost me a lil was the back stories but all in all it didn't really matter bcs we had loads of tasty guts and stupid ass (funny) lines.
I was wondering though, if youre intestines are pulled out like 6-7 meters and someone or thing touches it at the farest point how the hell would that be perceived like you feel things 20feet away thats weird to think about.
I was drinking VodKa with Crimson Cherry Fanta.
7.2/10
Pretty much dug this from start to finish. Love the way it drops into an backwoods alien abduction of sorts. Love the practical effects. Intestines spilling out, skin peeling off. Low budget, but effective guys in a aliens suit. Fun flick. Recommend.
Degrees of Kevin Bacon: 2
1. Adam Kaufman and Bob Gunton in Veronica in the FBI
2. Bob Gunton and Kevin Bacon in J.F.K.
"If they want us gone from this planet we are gone... shows over, end of the human race"
Altered is gloomy sci-fi horror that was made with passion. Alien abduction trauma manifests in a dark of night battle spattered with phenomenal effects, sicko body horror and flesh crawling atmosphere.
The story itself has some inconsistencies but they're overlooked on my end mainly because of how well it executes its horror. It tends to go above and beyond, not letting itself be restrained by its budget and not holding back any love or dedication to the task at hand.
The dreary night, emotional torment, leeching paranoia and space invader danger that's all constantly present and lurking in the shadows gives it…
Years after being abducted by aliens, a group of friends decides to turn the tables and abducts one of the aliens to get revenge. Of course, things don't go as planned and they come to realize that if they kill it, the rest of its kind will destroy humanity.
I remember being interested in this when it first came out being Eduardo Sanchez's follow up to The Blair Witch Project but it got dumped direct-to-video and I never got around to it. I'm surprised the studio didn't give it a bigger release or put more marketing behind it, they could've sold it using the Blair Witch connection and it's actually an effective alien horror movie. It's got some great practical…
You can't go home again, and you can't really make alien abduction movies outside of the 1990s.
I only recently discovered that one of the directors of The Blair Witch Project, Eduardo Sánchez, had made an alien movie. As an ardent defender of The Blair Witch Project, as well as a connoisseur of grimy UFO conspiracy fare, I felt obligated. Obligation just gets you in trouble, really, a lesson I feel like I should have learned long ago, and one that I probably never will.
This might have stood a chance if Sánchez could have picked a direction. This apparently started life as a comedy, and you can see the remnants of that decision in the initial setup. A collection…
This had a cool premise but has a mid-2000s direct-to-video stench that it can't escape. Would love a remake to take another swing at a similar concept.
