Look, for a SAW/SCREAM knockoff from the 2007 co-written and co-directed (on his debut) by the dude that would later give us The Intruder with Randy Quaid, this was pretty good.
It's true that the writing isn't great and that the dialogue is cringe-inducing at points; the movie's intended message at the end is laughably shoehorned; the soundtrack makes the film outdates this movie probably even few years before the film's actual release; and the performances and characters are so stereotyped that not even Hauer can salvage this.
All in all, despite its many shortcomings, I found this entertaining on the level of a thrashy teen slasher with actual violence and blood, as opposed to the PG-13 bullshit that so many of these films nowadays leans to.

it’s a very stereotypical 2000s era slasher, but i’ve been craving a rewatch of ‘dead tone’ (2007) for the last few months because i haven’t seen it since 2023. definitely better on my first watch, but the more i rewatched the more i remember why i liked it so much .ᐟ 🩸🩸📞🪓🩸🩸
more than anything i adore the slasher design, a faceless parka jacketed killer with an axe that makes me think of kenny from ‘south park’ LOL his design is part of why…
Picked this up from Blockbuster back in the day. A standard slasher film with a prank gone wrong setup. Quirky characters, a silly premise, a menacing axe wielding killer, lots of screaming, a high body count, and a solid killer motive. The secluded mansion setting was great. The over the top acting from some of the cast ranges from comical to flat out annoying. The kills are brutal and bloody but lack originality. Loved the ending. It's not a must see slasher but I've always had a good time with it.
descobri esse filme por acaso, e por ele ser bem desconhecido eu não tava botando fé, mas até que é legalzinho
A very 2007's slasher. Missed the mark on being more enjoyably 2007 or shit for me though... damn.
Rutger Hauer is hardly in it.
This is an underrated slasher that not too many have seemingly heard of and/or seen. Prank calling games gone wrong. The killers costume/coat isn’t the most creative but it didn’t bother me that much.
Imagine you put on a horror movie only to be greeted by host Flavor Flav as a rip-off Crypt Keeper, Time Keeper. Yeah boyyyyyy. I’m was ready for a low grade 2000’s horror movie, but couldn’t have ever prepared myself for one of the funniest bad movie experiences I’ve had in awhile. There’s really no way to seriously review Dead Tone. Although I must get somethings off my chest or it might always haunt me.
Let me start with how shocked I was to find out this was made in 2008 for how hysterically stereotypical and offensive this movie is. I’m pretty sure the director just told the gay character “hey! Swing your arms a little gayer!” And I sadly…

Don't you love a bunch of kids that never learn. Yes please.
Prank calls that end with parents being slaughtered. Fast Forward 10 years and what's their party trick......prank calls
I enjoyed the heck out of it. Sure I was confused about who the grown up kids were compared to the youngsters at the start, but I'm sure that was intentional.
Oh and that toilet wins over the worst toilet ever, and she sat on it 👀
Life’s been going pretty well for me recently, so I figured I’d fix that by watching a 2007 DTV slasher. I’m certain this was made earlier and shelved for a few years because the Woodstock ‘99 energy is off the charts - the level of obnoxiousness on display is just wild. Plenty of 50 Cent and power-emo on the soundtrack. Every now and again it cuts to Rutger Hauer(!) shuffling around and looking extremely Over It. When the killer is revealed, a character flashes back to hearing him say that he hates cops, like that’s a red flag. Ha! Fuck this movie.
