It portrays four working-class friends who grow up in The Hamptons, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York, as clam diggers in 1976. Their fathers were clam diggers as well as their grandfathers before them. They must cope with and learn to face the changing times in both their personal lives and their neighborhood.

In a film about clam diggers, I, uh, did not expect to see Paul Rudd's butt.

Wow, what a surprise! My girlfriend and I are going through all of Paul Rudd's movies (we met him last year {name drop} at a Hollywood premier). To tell you the truth, I was a bit uninspired by this challenge. He has very good films under his belt, but I thought I had seen all the good ones. Our viewing of THE CHATEAU seemed to confirm that for me. But this film really blew me away.

Oh god hahaha there were lots of atrocious moments throughout but the best worst part was when the city slicker edgelord girl from NYC was getting a beer with P Rudd (this was a pivotal time where we’re supposed to realize they’re just not like the other people in this little hodunk town) and the girl randomly pulls out a fucking red lightbulb from her purse and replaces the regular one just because she’s so quirky and is “in a light mood”?? And then Paul Rudd immediately pulls out his little camera and takes a picture of it!? Daaaaamn, you’re right, this guy can’t be a fucking CLAM DIGGER. He’s got dreams! He’s got big plans! You won’t catch him in a yucky little boat, smoking cigarettes and wearing dirty flannels! He likes taking PICTURES of things, you understand? He belongs in the city, not this nothing place where nobody else likes to take pictures of things!
the whole movie they r sad there’s no clams but then they throw about ten cigarettes into the water like you’re what is driving all the critters away
ken marino stop shouting at sarah paulson challenge
Paul Rudd, Ken Marino, Ron Eldard, Maura Tierney, Josh Hamilton, Sarah Paulson, and Lauren Ambrose equally delight in this small lighthearted film. The problem is with the script construction, it doesn’t feel as coherently put together as it should, feels like a rough draft. Thematically it’s torn between drama and comedy but doesn’t deliver on the dramedy it sets out to be. It’s innocuous and pleasant enough but I never laughed and didn’t find any new insights into the human condition, I felt I never really got to know these characters. It’s such a nice but forgettable film.
I could watch an entire movie of Ken Marino yelling at kids.

Overlooked gem, written by Ken Marino and starring himself and Paul Rudd. Clam diggers on Long Island just getting by. Very low key but with fantastic dialogue. Would probably make a solid double bill with Prince Avalanche. On Netflix.
During the 1970s as corporate fisheries begin snatching up water rights around the Hamptons, independent clammers Hunt (Paul Rudd) and his friends can do little else but watch their way of life slip away. While members of the group look for ways to cope, Hunt begins a summer romance with a young vacationer (Lauren Ambrose).
A nice, comfortable movie. The story has been done before, and it really adds nothing new. Despite that it is an easy film to watch. Paul Rudd and Lauren Ambrose are both very good.
