Castle Freak asks the important questions, such as: what if there was a castle? And in that castle, there was a freak?
Castle Freak is a movie that understands that the very heart of Gothic Horror is the horror inside every family. The failures, the recrimination, the shame, the weaknesses and the violences, both grand and petty, constitute and erode family cohesion and definition. That the mistakes made in error or fury or sadness encode themselves into the following generations, shaping their experience of the world, delimiting their potential, and setting the stage for furtherance of the family curse, which, sadly, is redundant. Castle Freak is a tale both downcast and thrilling, taking place in a storm-wracked Italian Castle inherited by a new brooding lord of the manor who carries dark burden and tumultuous emotion into this new home, his wife and…
I would have loved for my sex dungeon to come with a malformed, disturbed, horny freak. They just don’t make them like that anymore.
the gods gave us cinema so we can all witness castle freak’s nutsack shot in 37 different angles
Always remember when you get a new home, check for mold, structural damage, asbestos in the attic and deranged, deformed, muderous freaks living in secret cells in the basement. If you miss one of those, it can be a mess. Especially mold.

I have always enjoyed this movie, but I think the older I get, the more I appreciate it. I remember watching it when it first came out and being very excited about it beforehand. The horror rags I read from covered it extensively and I even remember an article in one of them on Jessica Dollarhide and how she was going to be the next big thing and that never happened, but still I remember!
Surprisingly dark for a Stuart Gordon film, this has some gnarly effects and really intense sequences. The castle location is beautiful. It’s really impossible not to love a film where Jeffrey Combs and Babs Crampton play a couple, right?

Oh, no
That ghoul is pretty wild now
(The ghoul's a castle freak)
The kind of ghoul you read about
(In new-wave magazines)
That ghoul is pretty kinky

He'd really love to taste her
(Every time they meet)
He's all right, he's all right
That ghoul's all right
With me, yeah
Hey, hey, hey-heeeey
He's a castle freak, castle freak
He's castle-freaky, yow
We watched the trailer beforehand and it's really impressive how often they say "castle" in that trailer. You get the impression the original cut of the trailer didn't mention anything about a castle and test audiences became confused. "Just where in the hell is this Castle Freak picture set?" That kind of thing.
Didn't expect this to be so mournful. Reminded me a little of Don't Look Now of all things. I've never seen Jeffrey Combs give anything less than 400% of himself to a role but even on the Combs scale this was something special.
conspiracy theory: the shudder/fango dude who produced HORROR NOIRE is buds with jordan peele got to see US early & recommended joebob do castle freak on his new show that happened to debut that very same week cuz watching this right after peele's the (spoilers) "abused/abandoned/sympathetic there-but-for-the-grace-of-god fucked up alt version of you that grew up caged underground but rises to the surface to dethrone yr family out of envy & revenge for the life they never had" plot means for once charles band is on the legally defensible side of a ripoff
