rly late with this one, sorry. basedgod said this super rare
taiwanese cinema is a weird beast, so in the spotlight thanks to those new wave classics that served as transition for many, including me, yet seemingly so undercovered once we go into the 2000s and contemporary times. while i wont claim i did any deep research yet, i knew out the gate i probably wont find a lot of tangible info on their female directors through western resources, and sure enough i didn't. it feels halfassed to post this without a little historical info blurb, but ill keep looking and adding.
best i got is…

best i got is Tsai Yin-chuan talking about how a lot of taiwanese women directors unfortunately quit after giving birth - taiwantoday.tw/news.php?unit=4,8,12,17,20&post=150307, which considering the pressure for women to have children before or early into their 30s in chinese cultures definitely explains at least in part why a lot of these careers are short lived. that and her splintering off into tv productions herself.
still, decent amount for now id say. i got at least double the shorts to add to tmdb, but who knows when i'll get to that between all the lists. features have priority, and theres a couple, with documentaries as usual being a big part too.
next one wont take as long, we into south asia now!
