When the witch wants a new dress for her wedding after talking to the devil about her plans for the ceremony because she knows he's going to look more elegant and beautiful than her! Also I was thinking it was going to be like a beauty and the beast type story with like a slow burn romance between the princess and Valemon but like... she immediately wants to fuck the polar bear

in all the available copies it seems as though this film was dubbed over in english or alternatively, all these eastern european actors were having to act while speaking english which didn’t lend itself very well to their performances, it’s hard to find much info on the production apart from the beautiful work the jim henson creature shop did on the polar bear animatronic so i can’t be sure but either way, it’s a shame !

it’s such a pretty and thoughtful adaptation of east of the sun and west of the moon and it has these really lovely pieces of dialogue that are just completely brought down by their performances like;

What's more cozy than burning a bunch of candles and watching movies in your bedroom during a snowstorm? This tape was an appropriate choice, the last time I watched The Polar Bear King I was still in the North (Scandinavia) now I'm back in the South (Hell). I still love the evil witch's entire aesthetic although her manipulative/sexual predator behavior is tacky, a bitch that bad doesn't need to be desperate for a man that dull.

Cheesy and I can’t tell if the polar bear puppet is great or awful— but I’m not immune to “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” adaptations and this is quite sweet.
