If you are a member of the elite super-rich who has decided to create a surveillance-estate complete with a bleeping and blinking electronics-age command and control center in order to trap and hunt werewolves in the guise of a locked-room mystery cozy country getaway, it is incumbent upon you to have made a custom black leather jumpsuit in which to fire upon werewolves with a machine-gun from the skies in your private helicopter from which you can later transition back into earth-tone leisure wear for cocktails and polite conversation about werewolves. Quite the themed party indeed!
Agatha Christie meets Amicus in the lycanthropic whodunnit. Definitely not top tier Amicus, but lighthearted fun if you can get past some pacing issues in the first half. Charles Gray, Michael Gambon, and Peter Cushing felt criminally underused in this gimmicky (THE WEREWOLF BREAK!) Ten Little Indians romp at an isolated high security werewolf attack ready mansion lol.
My first Amicus horror movie and it was a decent amount of fun. I loved the Agatha Christy type setup, the perfomances (Peter Cushing deserved more screen time though) and that they stopped the movie to give us a chance to guess who the werewolf was. It is just too bad this is a fairly low-budget affair which didn't allow the filmmakers to really run with it.
This is a movie I wouldn't mind seeing get remade.

This crazy whodunnit is my second favourite werewolf film. I love everything about it. Calvin Lockhart here is a fine specimen and his whole manner and voice is so dramatic, love!! The music whether it be the eerie tense times or the funky is all great to me. I am jiggling away on the couch everytime. The plot itself from that mad opening to harassing all of his guests to find out who the werewolf is, Calvin's outfits, Peter Cushing's mad accent that he forgets sometimes, his employee operating all the cameras in the trees and whatnot. The Beast Must Die plays out like something of a cross between And Then There Were None and The Most Dangerous Game, only with a werewolf twist. The simple plot focuses on a group of people brought together by a rich hunter who believes one of them to be a werewolf. The central gimmick is the guessing game over the identity of the werewolf. The film informs the viewer at the start that they will be given a "werewolf break" at the end to try and guess. A werewolf mystery that asks its audience to guess who the beast is, Paul Annett's "The Beast Must Die" combines a fun concept with lackluster execution. The Amicus production boasts a sturdy cast but lacks the energy and atmosphere to make it anything more than mildly watchable.
The plot revolves around a wealthy, big game hunter who has taken down nearly every type of animal. Assembling a group of people at his home, he declares his intention of tracking his biggest quarry: a werewolf. The story casts suspicion on all of the hunter's guest, and, literally, asks its audience to solve the mystery of which guest is the titular monster.

You may be aware of the “amen break,” but are you aware of the “werewolf break”? Yes, it’s “werewolf Clue,” a horror thriller mystery, but it could have used a bit more horror if you ask me. Calvin Lockhart cuts a mean rug as the black millionaire, big game hunter, who invites all his friends to his sprawling estate to find out which one will transform during the full moon (so he can kill it). Peter Cushing is phoning it in as the lycanthropy expert, but even phoning it in Cushing is fun to watch. The wolf transformation effects are…honestly not that good. And the werewolf itself is just a big dog. For the record, I guessed that our mad host was the shapeshifter. You’ll have to watch for yourself to find out if I was correct (or just read the wiki).

The central conceit is that there is a werewolf in the group of guests that have been invited by millionaire Tom Newcliffe to spend three days at an isolated estate in the English countryside. Newcliffe, a renowned big-game hunter, is obsessed with lycanthropy and is determined to stalk and kill a werewolf. Naturally, things spin out of control and it seems that Newcliffe will get far more than he bargained for.

Most Dangerous Game crossed with Ten Little Indians, BUT WITH WEREWOLVES! Really enjoyed the weird ass performances by Calvin Lockhart (what a wild filmography that guy has) and Peter Cushing, even if the central mystery is totally uninteresting. And even though the werewolf is clearly a German Shepherd in a fright wig. Not exactly a successful film, but definitely a unique one.
