Light Imprint: Daria Mikhailiuk for Bocci

Light Imprint, is a Bocci commission in collaboration with with art and movement director Daria Mikhailiuk.
Rooted in Bocci’s growing collection of portable lights, the 14p and 118p, the commission explores how portability frees design from technical restraints, allowing light to move, adapt, and open new conversations between people and space. In Light Imprint, this freedom becomes both subject and method: a choreography of light, gesture, and motion.

Each Bocci object begins as an experiment, guided by material response and process. Light Imprint gathers these gestures into a living framework, a study of how material, illumination, and movement come together. The work reveals an evolving dialogue between form, human presence, and space.
Here, the human body becomes a point of connection. Form begins in motion, geometry follows gesture, space responds to touch. As dancers interact with the lights, balancing, aligning, or setting them in motion, they shape fleeting structures that shift how light is experienced and understood.

Light Imprint is a reflection on process, a meditation on movement, memory, and the gestures that shape form.

Daria Mikhailiuk is a Vancouver-based art director and movement artist whose work spans performance, fashion, and film. She works intuitively with form, drawing out the sculptural potential of costume, gesture and space.
