Weird hours and job hunting.
I went to bed at 6am this morning and woke up at 1:30pm. To me this is an accomplishment because it means I was able to get out of bed despite only being in it for 7.5 hours instead of the usual 10 to 12 hrs. I didn’t feel as bad as usual either, so I was rather pleased. Last night’s dose of Seroquel did not make me fall asleep as I had hoped, so I ended up working on describing my dreams and searching for jobs on craigslist.com. I found 13 items of interest, though some were more like internships. Comments to self are in “[ ].E
1. HTML Coder/Graphic Artist: For JP Kids, an established children's multimedia company which focuses on developing entertaining and educational content for children's programming. [I find this attractive because it has to do with helping kids learn better and in a fun way.]
2. Japanese Kanji Proofreader/ Translator (Japanese 2 English): The first part of the job is Proofreading. The second is to do back translation of these documents into English from Japanese. [This is very attractive because I could hone my Japanese skills, especially reading and writing; plus I’m much better at translating Japanese to English, not vice versa.]
3. Artists - Wanted Immediately For Training: If you have a desire to be creative and have good customer service skills and an ability to use small hand tools then call or email immediately. 1 Month Training in Marbella - Spain ASAP [Just sounded cool because trainees get to be in Spain for a month.]
4. Part Time Art Teacher: KidsArt, SF, a private company teaching fine art drawing and painting to students, ages 4-16, is looking for artists who are interested in teaching part-time. [art + kids = :)]
5. Artist/Apprentice Painter: To work full time in SF commercial painting studio. Occasional travel necessary. [A curious posting. What are people getting paid for, I wonder.]
6. Photo Library Archivist: SWA Group, an international landscape architecture design firm, seeks an individual to coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of the photo / slide archives and all related materials; development of improved storage and conservation program; research photos / slides in the archives and in the digital archive system for the photo department on an as needed basis; assist with / direct eventual conversion of slides to digital archive. [Has two things I like: archiving and photos.]
7. Communications Assistant: Earthjustice is the non-profit law firm for the environment. The Communications Assistant will join a team of five staff members to provide support for the department and facilitate the flow of information with Regional offices and the Development Department. [I support Earthjustice’s causes and I could be surrounded by people who care about and can help me learn more about the environment.]
8. Tutor/Clinician: Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes is an internationally recognized leader in the remediation of learning difficulties for children and adults, seeks energetic, positive individuals to work as tutors in our Saratoga, Menlo Park, or Burlingame Centers. Full-time, Part-time, and summer seasonal positions available. [Not really sure what this is really about. The location was a positive factor.]
9. Artistic People for Paid Creative Discussion Group: The discussions will focus on consumer relationships between online and offline brands for a variety of consumer categories (i.e., media/entertainment, travel, high-tech, retail, finance, automotive, etc.). They will last for two hours and participants will be paid $65. [Seemed like a good way to meet other people into design and have intelligent conversations. Maybe help me learn more about the web too.]
10. Consumer Research: Make easy money by participating in paid focus groups, website usability testing & research interviews concerning a variety of products and services. All focus groups pay participants an incentive - usually cash - from $50 to $100 or more. [I’m a little suspicious of this post, but if it’s in the south bay, I may be willing to do this occasionally.]
11. Wildlife Internship: Wildlife Rescue, Inc. is a non-profit organization that has served Palo Alto and the surrounding community for 26 years by rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, returning them to the wild, and by sharing with the public information that will allow it to peacefully co-exist with and to support local wildlife. [This is something I’ve wanted to do ever since I found out about it while at Audubon, but the downside is not getting paid.]
12. Naturalist: Staff Naturalist with broad general experience needed at eNature.com. eNature.com is the leading site devoted to wildlife and nature. We are wholly owned by the National Wildlife Federation and are fully funded on an on-going basis. [I don’t know if I have broad general experience, but it’s working for the National Wildlife Federation and has to do with nature :)]
13. Save-the-Redwoods League Needs Volunteers for Office Admin: Save-the-Redwoods League is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer who will help us with some office administration/support tasks. [Another organization I support, but again, no pay.]
I’m looking for anime DVDs on YesAsia.com, but with little success at finding Laputa, Nausica, Totoro, Porko Russo, Ponpoko, and other Miyazaki titles. Hmm. I took my sleep pill, and now I’m too sleepy. Some guy in Cupertino is asking me if I’d be interested in a short-term relationship (on icq). Odd. How can he ask that when he’s never met me?
