First Month Wrap Up

My resolutions are holding.

After what felt like the LONGEST MONTH in history, we’re finally into February. I counted my calories every day, made healthier choices, and lost 10lbs. Which doesn’t sound amazing, but I also had several cheat meals along the way. This month I’m kicking it up a notch, I’m going back vegetarian and getting a gym membership. A few years ago I started eating meat again, I don’t know if it was societal pressure, convenience, or both. But it was the WRONG decision for me. So after spending $150 on groceries yesterday, I’m ready. I highly recommend watching the documentary, “The Game Changers” on Netflix, it’s highly educational, with lots of scientific proof of the benefits of living a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

I feel like my art has improved drastically in just a month, the purchase of an iPad + Procreate being the biggest reason. I need to stay focused and continue to practice both digital AND physical formats to really perform at an optimal level. I feel like I have years to make up for. I purchased a portfolio so that once I have some decent pieces I can assemble them and start seeking a tattoo apprenticeship.

I achieved 26 days of French lessons on Duolingo, which I’m proud of, but that also means I missed 5 days somehow. I need to kick it up a notch and get better at it this month.

I planted Sweet Basil, which is leafing out nicely, and Rosemary which hasn’t budded out yet. I still have my pepper seeds to plant, but will need a larger container before I can move forward.

Next month on the 20th I’m getting a large tattoo dedicated to the Hannibal TV series, I’m planning on it covering most of my upper right leg, so I’ve been slowly going back through the show.

I almost exclusively do gaming on my Switch now. I finished the story mode in Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe and am now enjoying the daily challenges. I’ve successfully obtained 3 shiny Pokémon in Shield: Pumpkaboo, Litwick and Mimikyu. I’m working on Duskull right now, this is the first time I’ve ever done shiny hunting in a proper Pokémon game.

I’m casually searching for a part-time job, but making it to where improving my art is my real job. For as long as I can afford it, anyway. We’ll see what this month brings 🤞🏻

I made the decision to try for a tattoo apprenticeship, so I’ve been forcing myself out of my comfort zone and doing at least one sketch a day, but sometimes is frustrating because all I see is me as a little kid trying to draw Nintendo characters and not understanding why I couldn’t make them look good.

Well, I took the advice of many many people and got an iPad 7 w/Apple Pencil and Procreate and I AM SO HAPPY. I feel empowered. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but the program made me feel like I can accomplish whatever I want. I cried I was so happy. All of these years of being creative and not knowing where or how or why to pinpoint my artistic mindset and I finally have an outlet. I finally feel like I have a direction.

I thought I wanted to go to tattoo school, but I’ve been told by one of my favorite artists that they’re trash, and there have been protests by legitimate artists and really thought-provoking articles written about the bad experiences people have had there. I figured any experience would be better than none, but I never considered they might teach me bad habits.

So for now, I’m going to continue to develop my art until I can build a portfolio and hopefully get an apprenticeship someday this year. I didn’t want to wait, I wanted a definitive timeline where I could sorta see when I might become an artist, but this is the safer more legitimate way. I don’t want to give up, I want a career that will make me happy and this will.

Overall I’m down 6lbs since the start of the year.

I’m not losing at the rate I would like, but I’ve made mistakes and had “cheat” meals here and there along to way, so overall I’m still really proud! I’m so happy to have a good support group in my friends & family, I was obsessed with getting like 5 Heath bars last night but I was talked out of it and am happier for it.

My sweet basil seeds have sprouted and I’m SO EXCITED and can’t wait to grow more stuff in the coming year.

I’ve been keeping up with my daily sketch & French lessons, flossing, and taking my supplements. I take a multi vitamin, St Johns Wort and Iron.

I got my first supporter on Ko-Fi, I’m humbled and ecstatic and it feels so good to be supported! I’m one more step closer to tattoo school, I even sent an email off with a few questions that I have and I hope to hear back from them soon. I’m feeling more confident each day 💪🏻

Yesterday was not awesome. I started out with a veggie wrap that added up to an amount of calories that didn’t make any sense, so by lunch I had to skimp on my meal (just some 100 calorie yogurt) to try to save enough calories for dinner. Well, I broke. I was starving and weak and I overindulged myself. It was a shameful sight, but I’ve forgiven myself. During the day I felt an overwhelming sense of exhaustion to the point where I absolutely had to lay down, while still battling a lingering headache. While I’m not proud of my dinner choice, I still got my daily sketch and French lesson done. I’m still better than I was yesterday, and I woke up today and was at the same weight. Baby steps.
