At DISCO, we know that search is fundamental to your workflow. Whether you’re a producer looking for an old beat or a music supervisor sifting through a million tracks for a one-stop track on a deadline, efficient and accurate searching is essential.

With over 150M tracks on the platform, and hundreds of thousands of searches performed every week, our search functionality requires high performance infrastructure and best in class search technology to deliver high quality results, fast.

We’ve spent the last few months rebuilding DISCO’s search capabilities from the ground up, delivering a new experience that is faster, richer, and more intuitive.

The Improvements: Speed, Power, and Precision

Our new search engine delivers a substantial leap in performance and capability. Here are the key improvements you can expect to see in your DISCO:

1. Improved Search Engine

Typo and spelling tolerance: Our search now supports fuzzy searches, search suggestions and typo tolerance, as well as better support for non-English characters, including Korean and Japanese characters.

Faster performance and smoother loading: Under the hood, we’ve overhauled our search architecture from the ground up to deliver immediate results. This involves changing the way we do backend indexing and query processing, significantly reducing the time it takes for DISCO to return search results.

2. New Search Layout

Column-Based Search: View more results and metadata on a single, customizable page. Tailor the columns to show the data most relevant to you.

Inline Filtering: Narrow down your search results instantly with filters now integrated directly into the search view.

Full-width view and auto-expanding Playlist Creator: The new layout is more flexible, allowing you to discover and search while easily adding tracks to playlists.

3. Deeper search capabilities

Rebuilt Similarity Search (Sim Search): DISCO Sim Search is now faster, more accurate, and a more reliable way to find the right track, fast. This new system, fully rolling out over the next few months, is powered by a next-generation audio AI that was trained on a far richer understanding of music than before. Instead of only matching tracks based on surface-level acoustic patterns, this AI captures the fuller musical picture — melody, rhythm, texture, energy, and mood. Each file receives a unique sonic fingerprint, allowing us to compare millions of these in milliseconds to deliver genuine, relevant matches.

Rights Data Lookup: Music Supervisors can now access key licensing rights data directly from search results, helping to streamline the licensing process. (Rights data lookup, now in beta, is currently available to select users.)

The existing Browse search will remain available for now to support some specific use cases not yet supported in the new search page, such as searching for a specific playlist within your DISCO and accessing the breadcrumb trail view.

4. What’s next

We’ve got a heap of other improvements to our search and discovery experience on the way:

Natural language search: Search how you think, rather than having to use keywords.

More flexible Similarity Search results, with improved filtering and sorting.

The ability to search across specific DISCO Catalogs within MultiDISCO search.

Surfacing even more relevant track data (e.g., similar tracks, other playlists) within the search results.

A revamped discovery experience for music supervisors.

Rollout and Feedback

We’re really excited about how these search improvements will improve discovery and support core workflows for our users.

The new search experience is rolling out in beta to all DISCO users throughout December.

We’d love your feedback as we continue to improve search. Please use the dedicated callout in-app, or email us at newsearch@disco.ac.

To learn more about DISCO and begin a free trial, click here.

DISCO.

“We love DISCO Artist Pages”: How SNACKTIME Organizes Their Growing Catalog With The DISCO Artist Plan

SNACKTIME

SNACKTIME is a Philadelphia-based band specializing in a mix of soul, funk, jazz, and alternative. Comprising seven members, the group first got together during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 when they started performing free shows in Philly’s historic Rittenhouse Square neighborhood, as well as South Philly’s Passyunk Square.

From there, SNACKTIME have performed at a range of major music festivals, including SXSW, The Roots Picnic, Firefly, and Adult Swim Festival, and they opened for Portugal. The Man in early 2024. In 2025, SNACKTIME began serving as the house band for former Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce on his ESPN show They Call It Late Night.

SNACKTIME bassist Sam Gellerstein spoke to DISCO about using the platform to easily share and collaborate on demos with the rest of the band and its management, as well as store promotional assets via DISCO Artist Pages, keep files password-protected and secure, and the major benefits of a DISCO Artist Plan’s unlimited storage.

“We love DISCO Artist Pages”

Sam opened up about SNACKTIME’s use of Artist Pages, a feature within the DISCO platform that lets users create dedicated webpages showcasing their music and other information, like photos, website, social links, and a bio.

“One feature we really love over at DISCO is the Artist Pages. It’s really cool to be able to put a version of the album out and then include other [versions] under the original song and have the lyrics down there, and then maybe a different revision,” he says. “The Pages function is something we use a lot.”

Nesting Track Versions using DISCO

As Sam was laying out, Artist Pages can contain playlists with Nesting Track Versions, which store multiple versions of a track — everything from instrumentals, cut-downs, a capellas, stems — with the main track for quick access and easy sharing.

“Let’s say we have our song ‘Sunshine,’ and we have the finished version,” Sam says. “Underneath we have mix three, mix two, mix one. And then we also have the ‘Sunshine’ demo. It’s really cool to be able to, at a glance, switch back and forth between different versions to check it out real quick and easy.”

Sam also notes that switching back and forth between different track versions on DISCO helps when SNACKTIME members want to collaborate and share ideas for how the track is sounding as it goes through the mixing process. “[Say] I want to hear the guitar when it was louder, here’s mix one, boom. Here’s one that’s a little quieter on mix two. You can easily compare and contrast, which is awesome for the band,” he says.

“We might not be technically savvy, but we all know how to update a link”

One of the simplest methods of sharing files within DISCO is by creating a dedicated URL featuring playlists to send to any involved party, whether it’s other band members, management, publicists, or additional members of your team.

Sam tells DISCO how SNACKTIME’s demos used to be scattered across different file-sharing platforms before they switched platforms, and now he appreciates being able to send out “a nice, convenient link.”

“Once it’s time to [send music out] to people who might want to sync us, or people who might want to produce something for us or sign us, we have this really great link that looks great and it feels great to use — it’s been really helpful to us,” Sam says.

Sam also says that DISCO’s user-friendly interface makes it easy for him and the rest of SNACKTIME to collaborate on playlists using one link. “The great thing about DISCO is that it’s easy to use for us as a band. We might not all be technically savvy, but we all know how to update a link.”

“DISCO’s password function allows you to send tracks out securely”

DISCO makes it simple to password-protect all playlists on the Artist Plan, making sending files back and forth much more secure.

“Having new versions of songs are very sensitive, especially when you have it going to any amount of people,” Sam says. “You want to make sure that you know the wrong person doesn’t get it and steal your song or something. So, it’s really cool that the password function allows you to send it out securely without concern of it going into the wrong hands.”

The DISCO Artist Plan has unlimited storage

Sam tells DISCO how pleased he and SNACKTIME were when they realized that a DISCO Artist Plan includes unlimited storage, aka an infinite space to store all of those track versions and stems.

“We have the ability to store our videos on here also, which is super helpful,” he says. “Which will allow us to hopefully not be giving $10 a month to someone else and keep it so we can pay for food on the road. We’re going to start exporting all of our photos and videos there as well.”

Learn more about DISCO for Artists here. Generally speaking, a supervisor will reach out to their publishing contacts, who in turn will suggest possible tracks from their catalog. But what if a music supervisor wants to reach beyond their contacts — and potentially make new ones? Enter: DISCO Discovery Suite.

The DISCO Discovery Suite is an add-on feature pack that optimizes your DISCO with powerful search and discovery tools. It allows you to auto-tag your music, use Similarity Search to uncover hidden gems, generate Instant Instrumentals, and share DISCO Catalogs (previously Libraries) for 24/7 client access.

The DISCO Discovery Suite is also how Bob Mair at Black Toast Music — a musician-owned and curated catalog comprising more than 12,000 tracks across more than 400 genres — ended up connecting with Producer & Music Supervisor Anna Garcia Lascurain at Squeak E. Clean Studios, who reached out looking to license WEARETHEGOOD’s track “Big Drip” for a national KFC campaign.

Now based in Atlanta after spending three decades in Los Angeles, Bob is a veteran musician and composer and has written music for a number of iconic TV shows, including Dawson’s Creek, Party of Five, Mad About You, Dexter, The Wire, and The Nanny. In 1990, Bob founded Black Toast Music.

Bob says that the primary reason he appreciates DISCO Discovery Suite is that “It levels the playing field.” That is to say, because any music supervisor anywhere (for example, Anna Garcia Lascurain works out of Austin, Texas) can land on a licensable track within a certain catalog on the Discovery Suite, and they don’t have to have a pre-existing relationship with its publisher.

“Whoever goes to the Discovery Suite is looking for music,” Bob says. “They’re not necessarily thinking, ‘I’m going to go find it with Black Toast Music.” They go in looking for the best piece of music for whatever project they’re working on.”

Bob continues: “We were very blessed that Squeak E. Clean found ‘Big Drip.’ They checked us out. They asked if we were open to doing business? They ran it up the flagpole, and it passed all the producers and everybody else. So we landed a national spot, which was fantastic.

“I didn’t get somebody to contact me and go, ‘Hey, do you have anything that checks this box and that box? Squeak E. Clean did it themselves. They came to me because they found me via DISCO,” Bob concludes. “I wanted to boast about how grateful I am that DISCO has created the Discovery Suite.”

Watch the national KFC ad featuring WEARETHEGOOD’s “Big Drip” below.
https://medium.com/media/74aa025a3b267b84e7536c7b97cd7b72/href
To learn more about DISCO and begin a free trial, click here.

DISCO. With the initial goal of providing fast, lightweight file management for anyone who works with music and media, DISCO is now the music industry standard workflow tool for music supervisors, rights holders, management and promo teams, artists and composers, producers, and more creative professionals who want to intuitively organize and share their work, and particularly if you’re a creator, elevate your personal brand.

While you might already be familiar with DISCO’s popular features like the Discovery Suite, Artist and Album Pages, and AI-assisted Auto Tagging, we’d love to tell you about a few more useful platform features, such as Lyric Transcription, Watermarking, Shared Channels, Account Switching, Instant Instrumentals, Similarity Search, and the Hideable Playlist Creator.

Let’s dive in below.

1. Lyric Transcription: Transcribe lyrics directly inside DISCO

The more information that travels on your files, aka metadata — Title, Artist, Contact Information, Artwork, Lyrics, etc. — the more searchable your tracks will be in DISCO.

With our Lyric Transcription feature, you can populate lyrics in the metadata of your tracks on DISCO with one click. This makes it easier to search by keywords contained in the lyrics of your songs, which can improve the overall discoverability of your content. What’s more, if you’re on DISCO, you don’t have to move tracks anywhere else to have them transcribed.

Lyric Transcription is available with unlimited access on the Artist Plan. Plus, Pro, and Enterprise Plans include access to 20 lyric track transcriptions as a trial. For Pro and Enterprise users with the Discovery Suite, Lyric Transcription is available up to their Discovery Suite track quota.

Learn more about DISCO’s Lyric Transcription in this video:
https://medium.com/media/6de08b44647f47d800815815b314e1be/href
2. Shared Channels: Share entire music content channels directly with other DISCO users

With Shared Channels, users on our Artist, Pro, Supervisor, and Enterprise plans can share channels with their partners on the platform — and those partners can see that shared channel right in their own DISCO.

Many of our users already work closely with other users on the DISCO platform — they might sub-publish a partner’s catalog in another region, license content under a blanket license, or collaborate with another artist. Shared Channels makes it easier for partners — or anyone on the platform — to share larger volumes of content and stay in sync. Shared Channels eliminates the need to share multiple links, as everything lives in DISCO.

Shared Channels is currently available on our Artist, Pro, Supervisor, and Enterprise plans.

Find out more about how to use Shared Channels here.

3) Quickly Switching DISCO Accounts

Managing multiple DISCO accounts is now more intuitive than ever.

We recently moved the Account Settings location to the top-left of your sidebar, directly under your DISCO business name, making it so that you can switch between different accounts directly within the platform, eliminating the need to log in and out or use multiple browser windows. All your accounts are now accessible in one central location.

Learn more about how to quickly switch DISCO accounts here.

4. Instant Instrumentals: Generate clean instrumentals with one click

With Instant Instrumentals, you can create Instrumental versions of your Tracks (without vocals) within your DISCO in under a minute.

Instant Instrumentals is powered by our AI to create versions of your Tracks without vocals. The AI works best with uncompressed or lossless file formats (e.g. WAV, AIFF), so it uses those files whenever possible. Lossy formats, like MP3, are only used if there is no uncompressed/lossless format on a given Track.

If a lossless format is used, our AI will first create a 16-bit, 44.1kHz .WAV file, then automatically transcode an MP3 at the bit rate set in your business settings. If a lossy format is used, only an MP3 will be created. Creating Instrumentals doesn’t impact the quality of the original Tracks in your DISCO.

“I find the AI Instrumental feature very helpful,” producer and composer Dan Mufson says. “My catalog features a combination of instrumental and music with vocals. If a track in my library features vocals but the client is looking for an instrumental rather than leaving that out of the pitch, with one click I can create an instrumental on the spot. Prior, I’d have to be in my studio, then recall the session and reprint the track. An inconvenience.”

Instant Instrumentals is included in our Discovery Suite add-on feature pack, so you’ll need to subscribe to Discovery Suite to get access.

Find out more about Instant Instant Instrumentals here.

5. Music Watermarking: Protect your releases from leaks

Watermarking is the process of inserting digital “fingerprints” into different instances of audio tracks. This makes it easier to trace leaked Tracks back to the individual recipients they were shared with. The Watermarking feature is available as a paid add-on to any DISCO subscription.

“What’s really great about DISCO is the security options that they have,” Ruth Wyatt, Nettwerk’s UK & Europe Director Of Sync, says about sending files to outside parties. “If you’re sending unreleased files out to a client, it’s really important that it’s going to be safe when it lands in the hands of the people that need it. Having the watermark options is really good because if anything goes wrong, it can be traced.”

Ruth also likes that there’s the option to send streaming-only files and playlists, adding another layer of security. “In the sync world — for music supervisors and for myself — if we’re dealing with trailer clips or scene clips, you can password protect them as well.”

Learn more about Watermarking here.

6. Playlist Minimizer

Need more room to browse your DISCO workspace? You can now hide DISCO’s Playlist Creator with one click on the arrow button tab to the left, which allows for a cleaner, more focused workflow.

Use the Playlist Creator and minimize the entire playlist or individual sections within it by clicking the designated arrow button or the section name.

The Playlist Creator itself can also be minimized to the left side of the screen for more workspace, and saved playlists can be found in the Browse section.

7. Similarity Search

Available on Supervisor plans, DISCO Similarity Search is included in Discovery Suite and lets you find tracks in your DISCO that sound like each other. You can search by keyword, or copy/paste DISCO URLs or YouTube links into the search bar, and DISCO’s AI will analyze the audio and compare it to other tracks in your Catalog.

“I also really like playing around with the Similarity Search option [on MultiDISCO search], which uses AI to surface any tracks that sound similar to one that has been selected,” DISCO music supervisor Jackie Westfall says. “That way, if I’m stuck, maybe there’s something already lurking in my library that will spark a new idea.”

Learn about a few more game-changing DISCO features you might have missed here.

DISCO.

Mighty

Mighty (aka Mathias Mauk) is a rapper, singer-songwriter, and community advocate based in Portland. His story is particularly inspirational; as a child, Mighty grew up impoverished, bouncing around between homes as his father was incarcerated and his mother was dealing with addiction. When he wasn’t crashing with friends, Mighty spent 10 years living out of his mother’s Buick.

Today, the rapper pours his experiences into music and has launched Laced Up PDX, a nonprofit that works to provide kids with “kicks, school supplies, and confidence.” He has also landed sync deals with Netflix, HBO, Gatorade, MTV, and more recognizable brands.

Mighty sat down with DISCO to talk about his career beginnings, using DISCO as a resource for sync opportunities, and how much simpler it is to trade ideas with collaborators also on DISCO in the studio. “A lot of the producers that I work with love using DISCO,” Mighty says. “Just yesterday I did two songs with someone from LA and they use DISCO as well, and it was so seamless. The collaboration only took 24 hours. DISCO offered us that kind of bridge. It’s useful not only for top liners, but for producers alike.”

Storing deliverables in one secure location

Mighty initially started using DISCO as a way to help land sync opportunities. He says DISCO’s personalized Artist Pages has been vital for storing all of his tracks, stems, and lyric sheets, among other assets. If everything is stored on one professional, user-friendly page, he can quickly send one link over to potential clients.

“DISCO can deliver everything through a one-stop shop,” Mighty says. “That’s the difference between landing a spot or not. In that space, deliverables are key. So being able to diversify the deliverable for whatever company we’re working with — from metadata to lyric sheets to stems, to different track versions — it’s super-duper important to find a tool that will let you do that.”

“I utilized DISCO to expedite the process and landed two spots with NFL Films”

Mighty adds that landing a sync opportunity can often come down to how easy you make it for clients to click through your available tracks. “I wanted to execute at a high level, and DISCO was the tool that helped me do that,” Mighty says.

The rapper also talks about how storing his work on DISCO led to a huge opportunity to place two sync spots with NFL Films. “I was going back and forth with [creative agency] Formation Sounds’ founder Farnell Newton about getting an opportunity, and I utilized DISCO to expedite the process,” he says. “I landed two spots with them that morning… I want to make it convenient for anyone who’s dealing with me as an artist, and DISCO helps us do that.”

Because Mighty’s sounds have played well in the sports arena, he has created a “High Energy” DISCO Playlist especially for any potential client looking for sounds specific to the athletic space. “They can collapse the High Energy Playlist and be able to see the vibes they’re looking for.”

Get more sync opportunities by adding track metadata

In addition to providing specific metadata within tracks, like track name, artist, contact info, lyrics, and album art, Mighty saves time by using DISCO’s AI Auto-Tagging feature, which analyzes your music and applies descriptive, searchable track tags.

“Sometimes I need to upload certain top line vocals, wet or dry,” Mighty says. “So that’s big, being able to tag them the right way. I usually use DISCO’s Auto-Tagging, which is great. Making sure everything with the metadata is effective, like uploading lyric sheets, is huge with sync. If you don’t have that, you usually lose the spot.”

DISCO saves artists time with AI-assisted Lyric Transcription

As a rapper, lyrics are a vital component to track creation. To that end, Mighty gets a lot of use out of DISCO’s Lyric Transcription, which populates lyrics in the metadata of tracks and makes it easier to search by key words contained in the lyrics of songs, which can improve discoverability.

“As an artist, the hardest thing to do is to make sure you’re keeping your lyrics where they’re supposed to be, because ideas will hit you upside the head while you’re recording, and you end up changing the direction you’re going,” Mighty says. “And so why not utilize a tool like an AI-transcribed lyric sheet? I mean, come on, it’s saving time.”

“I have much more time now to get back to the ideas, back to the creation”

DISCO’s easy-to-use platform gives artists the freedom to do what they do best — create. “There are so many great artists in the world, but they just don’t get things to the finish line,” Mighty says. “Like they say, some of the best ideas are laying somewhere in your hard drive, because they just were never executed. A tool like DISCO allows you to alleviate that. That is key as an artist. I have much more time now to get back to the ideas, back to the creation, back to being who I’m supposed to be. Not a lot of platforms offer such a user-friendly dashboard.”

DISCO. Where Music, Lives, Works and Moves.

DISCO exists to make music management simpler. You can click through it like it was like a streaming platform. This is just simple.”

Watch Arieh/Pink Skies talk about using DISCO for all things file management and storage below.
https://medium.com/media/ab6ec6b722742b29d71238ff5ec772dc/href
Learn more about DISCO for Artists here. Each of the tracks can be found via DISCO Catalogs.

“It was fun to dive into the Discovery tool and see all of the catalogs that I have access to that I didn’t realize existed,” Tasha tells DISCO. “I was able to bop around and explore different companies’ music while researching the different artists I had discovered that had a cool sound.”

She continues: “Just about every single song selected for this playlist was something I hadn’t heard before. While making this playlist, I gained a better understanding of how many artists are ‘Los Angeles-based’ but not necessarily ‘Los Angeles-born.’ Focusing on native Angelenos for this one and showcasing the wide range of music and artists that come from this diverse city took some heavier research than you’d expect but it was a fun ride.”

Music Supervisors, you can access Tasha’s playlist in the Discover Music section of your DISCO account.

We hope you enjoy Tasha’s picks!

Beck — “Loser” (Kobalt Music)
Heavily influenced by LA’s vast diversity, Beck incorporates everything he was exposed to from the city into his music. Whether that’s hip-hop, Latin, rock, punk, or folk, you’ve probably heard it in one of his songs. I chose “Loser” because it’s such an iconic Beck track and one that you instantly recognize.

Los Yesterdays — “I Can’t Feel” (Now Again)
A really cool Chicano soul band from LA. They create soul music reminiscent of the 60s, 70s, and 80s with R&B and Mexican influences. I hadn’t listened to much of their music before starting on this playlist, and now they’re one of my favorites. This song in particular is a vibe.

Blxst — “Be Alone” (Red Bull Records)
Blxst grew up in South Central LA and started rapping/producing as a teenager. His melodic singing/rapping on this track is the perfect combo of catchy, vibey, and laid-back. You should listen to this one with the windows down, driving through the busy streets of LA.

Empress Of — “Love For Me” (Low Profile)
Empress Of is a first-gen Honduran-American, born and raised in Los Angeles. She’s an incredible talent and helps showcase the wide range of artists LA has to offer. This is a catchy track with some fun layering, a unique beat, and intricate harmonies.

AWOLNATION — “California Halo Blue” (Red Bull Records)
When I was deep in my search for LA artists, I found this song and learned that it’s about the loss of Aaron’s (AWOL) studio in Malibu due to the Woolsey Fire of 2018. This one paints a clear picture of what it’s like to live in Los Angeles as we endure these wildfires every year. Many people are still recovering from the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires that occurred in January 2025.

To learn more about DISCO and begin a free trial, click here.

About DISCO
Since 2016, DISCO has revolutionized music and media file management, providing industry professionals with robust tools to manage, share, and pitch music seamlessly. Its main job is to make sure that songwriters and rights holders are paid fairly, and that every time their music is played — whether it’s online, broadcast, streamed, or live — that they’ll be fairly compensated.

DISCO spoke to Sync Executive Elizabeth Perryman and Senior Creative Executive Molly Johnson at Sentric’s Liverpool offices about their favorite DISCO features, and why starting an account “felt like Christmas every day.”

Teachable moments with the School of DISCO

When Sentric is onboarding new employees, DISCO helps smooth out the process. They can quickly and easily get up to speed on how the platform works by viewing a few training videos on The School Of DISCO. “When we have new people starting, the first place we go to is the School of DISCO. It’s the first point of call and the first place to go to share knowledge,” says Elizabeth.

Sentric Receives Files From Anyone, With DISCO Inboxes

With DISCO Inboxes, Sentric can receive files from anyone, regardless of whether or not they have an active DISCO account. Sentric also told us about how they customize their Inboxes according to teams and projects. “We have more than one [DISCO Inbox]. We tailor them for certain projects that we are working on, and it just keeps everyone nice and in order.
