I know I don't have a ton of the SF's on my flist, so this will just be public, I would just like to say I continue to appreciate your input, and support!

It was not my intent to usurp the Admin/Mods and I only wanted people to keep talking to each other, and while I am not stating my "undying love" for the host I found, I'm also not convinced we need to move, and if there is a compelling reason to do so, well then SHARE IT. If you feel like you are the leader, LEAD. From the very first day I said, PLEASE make something *better*.

And let's take a breath, we are not talking world peace or a G8 economic conference level decision, it's a freaking internet discussion board about celebrities, where people happened to make lasting friendships and connections, that I'd like to see continue w/o internet drama bitch fits interfering. But I should have know that the internet and drama are never truly parted.

I'm truly sorry some people didn't feel "consulted" but I'm not apologizing for getting a board up. Not happening.

Song Remains the Same

So I'm old enough by now that I shouldn't still be surprised when my tastes in romantic narratives are so consistent and predictable over time. But the recent return of Roger Howarth to my favorite soap One Life to Live has reminded that what I'm a sucker for, I'm a sucker for again and again and again.

I've sailed some ships in my life, Spike and Buffy, Mulder and Scully, both about equally, but both PALE in comparison to my now 17 year investment in Todd Manning and Blair Daimler. Oh how I have tried over the years to quit them, to walk away, but then

And the needle is back on the record just like *that*. I can not resist that chemistry, I can not resist that history, I can not give up on their story. Other couples talk about being soul mates but TnB just ARE. And I've been in nostalgia overdrive ever since the Really Real Todd Manning came back, consuming youtube clips like crack. In the midst of one of these bouts of nostalgia I came across this clip of TnB, and was shocked how much it reminded me of my all time favorite S/B scene in Touched. Sigh, Touched:

"Will you just hold me?"

The whole TnB clip is great but if you pick it up at the 3:15 mark, you can see Blair say almost the exact same words to Todd: "Will you hold me?"

Superficially there is not of comparables there, though Todd is a killer and rapist, he is not an actual Vampire, and Blair while I love my bitch she is as much an anti-hero as her man. BUT contextually the power of both scenes lies in the same gesture, made after two prickly people who don't trust easily have forged a bond and an intimacy they've never had with anyone else, not even each other in their previous sexual encounters. It was really nice WOW moment for me when I saw that, I rewound and re-watched like three times.

In the great re-watch I also found this TnB scene with echoes of S/B like dialogue @ around the 5:23 mark.

IDK the whole thing gives me a gigantic kick.

Day 1: Favorite Season – I’m going to go with S7, if you love Buffy, the character really LOVE her, if you’re invested in the actual story of her growing up instead of some lead balloon “metaphor” about it, than yeah.

Day 2: Favorite Episode – Touched, My Buffy, I get verklempt just thinking of her here, she’s not some little girl who envies women in pretty dresses getting drained by hottie vampires, and is worried she wasn’t a good enough lay for her evil boyfriend. She’s a woman who knows who she is, who she loves, and how to win.

Day 3: Favorite Song Used In An Episode – Wild Horses – The Sundays Favorite Use of a Song In An Episode: Close My Eyes Refrain - Showtime

Day 4: Favorite Female Character – Buffy & Cordelia

Day 14: Favorite Female Villain – Faith, unlike a lot of Buffy lovers, I also love Faith. I loved seeing a Slayer who questioned, who doubted, who feared, and who failed to be compelled or controlled by “duty”. I think corruption and weakness is as interesting as strength and heroism.

Day 15: Favorite Male Villain - Caleb

Day 16: Episode You Like That Everyone Else Hates – There are SO many, but I’ll go with Some Assembly Required, not only do I like it, but I think the Frankenstein angle elevates it to one of the more poignant and well done episodes of S2. I mean how anyone can sit through Killed by Death or the God awful WML I, over this I will never understand.

Day 17: Character You Relate To The Most - Buffy

Day 18: Character Who Didn’t Get Enough Screen Time – Amy, Elizabeth Anne Allen was wasted, I really wish they had brought her back in S4 for Willow instead of using Tara Gay Now Now Brain Sucked Now Brain Wiped Now Dead UGH. Of course I also wish, they never made her gay and simply had Amy corrupting Willow by degrees.

Day 19: Character You Like That Everyone Else Hates - Dawn

Day 20: Best Spike-centric Episode – Lies My Parents Told Me, sure FFL introduces us to the William we’d only seen hints of in the form of reeking of humanity, but I like this one better because Incest is best obvs, but seriously I think S7 is about reconciliation of identity for the leads especially, and this is where Spike fully owns who he is and what he needs to do with his unlife.

Day 21: Best Willow-centric Episode - Halloween, it’s my favorite Willow, mostly because she spends the episode not really acting like Willow. Same with Gingerbread.

Day 22: Best Xander-centric Episode – Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered

Day 23: Two Characters You Wanted To Get Together That Never Did – Despite my Willow antipathy, Willow/Percy, Willow/Riley

Day 24: Favorite Example of 90s Special Effects – Reptile Boy Monster.

Day 25: Favorite Buffyverse Saying - Wiggins

Yet I can rewatch Lie to Me,and can’t rewatch the Zeppo.

Day 30: What You Think Made Buffy So Great – Tiny blonde girl kicks cheesy monster ass. Whenever I fondly recall falling for this show, I always come back to this. I have never loved a character quite the way I loved Buffy, I’m not sure I ever will.

So apparently I am having one of my every other yearly DD/GA tinhat spasms, and talking about it on SF is not sufficient. Trying to poke holes in my tin hat time line will only force me to come up with convoluted reasons that 2+2=5, dammit!

I had linked to videos that contained this picture, one that I had not seen before, but which looks awfully *cozy*. Well upon further research in places you don't want to know about, ahem, I found the whole batch of photographs from that night, which was the wrap party during season three of The X-Files. In one of them you can see that her husband at the time, Clyde Klotz is also there off to the side watching the drunken hug session.

Now I always thought her relationship with Klotz was kind of weird anyway, but the season three wrap party was in late March/early April of 1996, and there were rumblings that GA and Klotz were having problems or already unofficially separated by October of that year. DD was single for all of 1996, though he did briefly date Noni and Lisa Loeb.

So right before the 1997 Golden Globes, Gillian officially announces her plans to divorce Klotz, and DD "in a show of support and loyalty" escorts her to the show. Now at the time they appeared at the show together I wasn't in any significant way immersed in the fandom, certainly not anything on line, but I followed the show in magazines and was a mostly consistent viewer. I knew she was married to Klotz and that it was weird, I knew DD had been dating someone, but was now single (and was kind of a douche), and I knew that they had jointly laughed off any idea that they were/or had ever been a real life couple. They didn't go out of their way to say they weren't friends, but they never really came across as *close*, so I believed it completely.

Until I saw them at the Globes, where I then did not believe them AT ALL. I remember being like THUNDERSTRUCK that they were a) at a public event together as each other's "dates" being all glowly friendlys b) seemingly not just for shows, but for reals, as they were attached at the hip for the entire red carpet, and they barely let go of each others hands for most of that walk. She didn't let go even for a solo pose. And he is various degrees of beaming and besotted in every picture. I will note also, and importantly, that she is...less so.

For comparison's sake look at this picture of them w/Carter at the 1995 ceremony. It's all awkward discomfort, compared to their relatively blissed out behavior two years later.

Then there are their acceptance speeches where Gillian kisses DD, but forgets to thank him, whereas his voice softens and breaks a bit when he thanks her (and she gets emotional off stage and has to look away - kills me).

The pressroom video provides lots of goodness, like his sweet cheek kiss, and talk about how they felt their chemistry from the beginning, and then David get's asked what he says/does on days that make her not want to talk to him. Ha.

I think my all time favorite picture of them is a still from that video, that totally captures what the deal was between them, Gillian's sideways smug face while he's sweetly kissing her? Is fantastically hilariously bitchy. It is up there Gwyneth's Ben Affleck eye roll. Hee.

The thing I find interesting is prior to their recent and new supportive friends buddies and pals thing they've had going on since they shot X2 and promoted it, this was the only other extended period of time I can remember him being even remotely that animated and relaxed/happy doing press for the show/franchise. He is so much more fun when there is not a cork up his ass.

Alright, I think I effectively managed to waste all my time today. Bravo, self.

So this day won't stop sucking, but I can't make this vague brain cloud-y headache go away. I can't stop feeling fat. I can't make myself work. Facebook is making me sick to look at it's new layout. So I give up and quit this work day now. Now I go SHOPPING:

I had seen this AE Cargo Leggings a while back but no way was paying full price. Well now they are on sale!

I have much love for this Military Wrap Skirt, this Epaulette Sweater, and this Ribbon Shoulder Top. Loft also has some nice drape neck t's and cowl neck sweaters for a basic winter pieces I am desperately in need of.

Oh and NOW they decide to carry some great Boot-cut cords when I spent most of January scouring the stores for some. I'm always a freakin' season ahead.

Also I am LOVE with this Cashmere Biker Sweater, but will probably settle for the military sweater jacket instead. The Gap also has a version The Sherpa Moto Sweater.

Ah, now I feel better.

Heh. God love my Taco Girl's ~~lack of tact~~ brutal honesty.

So yeah my pretty rose pattern dress, definitely fell on the side of hoochie even on line, but it was also sort of innocent and flirty at the same time which is my favorite combination, but yeah this was a dress made to MODEL. If you have any delusions of walking, or sitting down or bending over? Not so much. It also gapped in the back because I'm too short torso-ed. And also probably, definitely, too old for it. Boo, I SO need another casual fun dress, especially in this perputual outdoor sauna weather!

The situation with the boy has evolved to an actual date. Situations are FUN, but so are dates!

Dinner For Schmucks is the ~~Gay~~ bromance Dogfight.

Ooh and getting back to Taco Girl, a decision has been made, and she will move in with my Aunt sometime in August, and start school here in the fall. Yay! I'm sorry her "mother" is a horrible bitca from HELL, but she will realize that she's loved dearly and surrounded by people who want and will DO the best for her. I took her shopping at the mall twice this weekend and I could TELL she's just *never* had that, she's so used to hearing no and everything that is WRONG with her that hearing yes and spending time just hanging out and window shopping is foreign, and notable for her she wasn't actually pestering me to *buy* things, she was just enjoying the bonding time. Have I mentioned how much I hate the bitch who's been raising her for 10 years? BITCH.

And I love jenelope like she was from HEAH, but seriously I think I'm the only women alive who HATES the Old Spice Guy/Commercial. The guy himself visually? Foine assed man, but the schtick? OY. Also my DAD wore Old Spice. I do not want my man to smell like my dad. Ew.

Comment and I will give you ten actors and ten actresses. Then post in your Livejournal with your favorite films of theirs. Yeah I’ve seen a lot of movies, so I’m going with the theme of picking little known, appreciated, or seen flicks by these actors.

1. Russell Crow - Proof. No not that movie where he hooked up with America’s married sweetheart. Also? Not that movie about math and crazy dying dads. It’s a great little Australian movie from 1991, wherein blind photographer Hugo Weaving, who has issues trusting anything, be-friends yet tortures Crowe and his hot housekeeper. I love this role because it was back before Russell Crowe was RUSSELL CROWE, and he’s nuanced and sweet, and by God a little innocent. Also? Not a fat head.

2. Matthew McConnaughey: Lone Star. I think people have seen this, but I still feel it is hugely unappreciated. My God I don’t think Matt has ever looked more beautiful. It’s your typical John Sayles, multi-layered, multi-cultured look at murder and family in small Texas border town.

3. Matt Dillon - Drugstore Cowboy. I think it’s his finest performance, and I mean I love Dally okay, and Matt Dillon in general, and it does take a certain kind of smarts to play dumb, but what I really love about Bob, is that it’s the one Dillon role where he gets to be smart. Super smart, and he looks pretty great for a full time hustling appropriately grungy drug addict.

4. Ben Affleck: Changing Lanes. In looking over his cv, it’s amazing to realize I think Ben is nearly as maligned an actor, as Keanu Reeves. He’s been so good in so many things (and he was amazing in Dogma), but I picked this because he has some truly sparkly and kind of surprising chemistry with Toni Collette. To this day I’d love to see them cast together again in something. It also benefits from the always awesome Sydney Pollack in one of his last on screen roles.

5. Bill Murray: Ghostbusters . Okay unlike Tom Hanks, I’m a fan of later day dramatic Bill Murray, but I broke from the theme here because let’s face it, it’s one of the funniest movies ever made, and he is the cornerstone of it. As great as the lines on the page are, they were written with only ONE man’s indelible dead pan/manic delivery, and that’s Bill Murray. "Yes, sir it's true. This man has no dick."

6. Alec Baldwin: Miami Blues. It’s Alec playing a very hot, very romantic, egomaniacal psychopath. A role he knows like the back of his hand! Jenny Jason Leigh is also in it playing one of her many early roles in the oeuvre of young dumb naked used up girls. I was more familiar with her vagina at the time the movie was released than I was with my own.

7. Tom Hanks: Volunteers. As I mentioned earlier, I’m not one who really embraces Tom Hanks post Philadelphia drama rama style. It’s not that I think he didn’t deserve his Oscar for that, it’s that I find him less interesting when he stopped incorporating humor into his role choices. He is a deeply hilarious person, and I wish we got to see that on screen now and again rather than only when he’s at awards shows mocking Gwyneth Paltrow. Anyhoo this movie is the perfect showcase of his hilarity and it's where he met Rita and both their comedic and romantic chemistry is evident.

8. Clive Owen - Close My Eyes. I probably should have gone with Croupier the film that sort of brought him to some peoples attention, but instead I’ll stick with the one that brought him to MY attention. Clive falls for/fucks his manipulative bitch sister. It is elegiac and awesome.

9. Liam Neeson - Husbands & Wives. Jeez, Liam Neeson is a really really good actor who makes really really lame movies. This was Woody’s last gasp of greatness as far as I’m concerned, and Neeson is surprisingly adept at Woodyspeak. If only I could remember if he’s a fox or a hedgehog…

10. Paul Rudd: Wet Hot American Summer. I am one of those people who doesn't GET people who don't GET Paul Rudd. BUT I was someone who put off seeing this movie for so long, which made no sense, because I LOVED The State, I *am* Janeane Garafalo, and those 80's exploitation comedies are dear to my heart. But when I saw Paul Rudd in this with longish Johnny Cougar hair, and tight Johnny Cougar jeans, flipping off Showalter, he had me for life.

The women were harder, I'm not a huge fan of any of these actresses save Noni/Sandy/Sigourney, so yeah.

1. Sigourney Weaver: Heartbreakers. This movie is so so cute and funny and I don't know anyone but me that saw it. It's crazy to think of JLH getting to work with Sigourney and Ray Liotta, but she does a decent job, it's the only time I've ever liked her in anything. Sigourney is such a kick when she's gets to do comedy. Hee I just noticed Zach Galifinakas has some small part in it. See FUNNY.

2. Sandra Bullock: The Thing Called Love. Awww Sandy B! And River Phoenix in his last role, STONED out of his gord and bloated on too much "salt", and still giving a pretty good performance as a hopeful country singer in Nashville falling in love with Samantha Mathis and making friends with Dermot Mulroney (one of the few movies he does not die in - SCORE). Sandy is one of the best parts of the movie though. It's definitely got that Bogdanovitch warmth to dysfunction feel to it, a very underrated little romance IMO.

3. Cameron Diaz: In Her Shoes, I think she deserved the Oscar nom over Catherine Keener for Being John Malkovich, but that movie is well known/respected/loved. This was the only movie of hers besides that one that I don't find unpleasant to awful in some way. It's not very good, but it's not very good in the way most Sandy B movies are, in that it kind of sucks you in anyway, and I like that it's about two sisters with a difficult relationship trying to bridge the gap that has existed between them for too long.

4. Jennifer Garner: Catch & Release. She is really not my favorite actress, and it wasn't until 13 Going on 30 I liked her at all, but this movie was dumped in January and it's written by Susannah Grant, she who wrote more Party of Five episodes that bawled over than I can count. The movie is like many things Grant writes about how to find love and joy after loss and betrayl. It's sad, romantic, funny, and complicated. And uh, Tim Olyphant is really hot in it.

5. Nicole Kidman: Birthday Girl. To Die For was the first time I ever really believed she possessed any talent whatsoever, and it is still I think one of her best performances, but this one in this movie, is where I straight up liked her the most. And I think she does a pretty amazing job, not with the accent which is kinda..bad, but in communicating a lot with just her eyes/face. It's a really different and nice character for her and one of my favorite seriously twisted romances.

6. Gwyneth Paltrow: Flesh and Bone. I do mostly like Gwynnie on screen, but she was stone cold awesome in this movie, that is maybe not as great as it was made out to be at the time (for all you Harry Potter fans, I think it was Kloves first big "mark"), but she's a soulless grifter, and she wears it well.

7. Winona Ryder: Square Dance Noni and mentally challenged Rob Lowe play at love, it's a really sweet and heartbreaking movie, that was also on tv. Might be the best acting Rob Lowe has done outside that scene where Soda Pop steps out of the shower and only barely covers his junk with a towel. Stupid stupid towel.

8. Susan Sarandon: The Tempest. I straight up hated her for years and years because of Bull Durham. The rage toward/about her horrible character still aggravates till this day. But before that she was in this and I did like here here. This is one of those movies that was on HBO in the early/mid 80's approximately 2000 a month. I love Paul Mazursky and think he's super funny, and his take on modern take on Shakespeare is pretty great. Raul Julia's Kalibanos eating Noxema straight out of a jar kills me.

9. Uma Thurman: Henry & June. Yeah this movie played to Uma's strengths, mainly looking sultry, seductive, and intimidating, and she is the best part of it. I was particularly impressed with her accent. No, really.

10. Julianne Moore: Vanya on 42nd Street. The same crew who put together My Dinner With Andre, work magic again, and Moore is amazing. How she did this and then turned around and made the excrement that is Nine Months I will never know.

Day 01 - A show that never should have been canceled – trust I want to say Freaks & Geeks, but there is something somewhat comforting in thinking how PERFECT it is, as is, SO I will instead say Cupid fuck me was that show great in it's original incarnation. I'd trade everything Rob Thomas, Piven, and Marshall did since for at least five full seasons of that show. The runner up is also Wonderland which ABC gave all of TWO, 2 episodes to catch on. A show about how we treat the mentally ill on multiple levels, it was BRILLIANT and snuffed out way way too soon.

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching – Community absolutely, they need the viewers like WHOA. "Bing, bong, sing a long. Your team's Al Gore cause your views are wrong!"

Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season) – It's a very close battle between The Vampire Diaries and Community, but really only one has a strong whiff of incest so it wins!

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever – Freaks & Geeks, it's PERFECTION.

Day 05 - A show you hate – My So Called Life. Eh, I mostly just hate Angela Chase. She was the patron saint of Stupid Bitch TV, ergo, allow the creators to tell you over and over what a smart person the main girl is when she proves over and over and over an OVER again what an inarticulate, dumb, insufferable fucking COW she is. I will never get over her dumping Sharon, because, LIKE she dyed her hair RED y'all she is a rebel. And I'm supposed to like this stupid shallow dumb bitch?

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show – Freaks & Geeks, "Girlfriends & Boyfriends"

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show – I will have to use a different show, I love all F&G eps almost equally. So um, Buffy, Tough Love, is hard man, hard to get through.

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch – Community. Again this show needs the love in a big way, unlike 30 Rock it doesn't have an SNL princess to buoy it through the hard times, so PLEASE to be watching. Joel McHale, is hot, Don Glover/Danny Pudi are consistently hilarious, and Allison Brie is romantic comedy gold.

Day 09 - Best scene ever – This isn't even a contest. Nick singing "Lady" to Lindsay, my beloved Oz and The Wire maybe brutally realistic in ways that scar you for years, but in terms of pure relation revelation? In terms of OMG I have been there, I have DONE that, I'm not sure any movie or tv show has ever EVER captured the tortured awkward pain of adolescence like Nick singing that to Lindsay. And it captured both sides equally well. Nick knows, he KNOWS it's all wrong, and stupid, but he can't help himself, it is everything in his heart and soul. Oh NICK. My Nick. Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving – Glee Oh man I wanted to hate Glee so hard. But damned if I didn't and still don't mostly think it's kind of brilliant. The acid tinged earnestness? Not many in this world can make both tones work, but I think Glee largely does. Mostly because I think it's true heart is black, and simply uses earnestness to make the medicine go down. Also it takes my FUCK PLOT mantra to an artform.

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you – OH man lately 30 Rock, Tina is coasting like a mofo.

Day 12 - An episode you've watched more than 5 times – Buffy, Smashed/Touched, and can I just say I love the ironic symmetry of both the titles and the themes?

Day 13 - Favorite childhood show – The Muppet Show! Those two old bastards in the balcony, cracking on shit, I owe them so much!

Day 14 - Favorite male character - Miguel Alvarez. Oh my puppy, so deliciously gender fucked and I weep for his tortured humanity, mostly cause Kirk Acevedo is just that good. And because he wants to get deep dicked by Ryan O'Reilly. So say we all!

Day 15 - Favorite female character – Beth, Newsradio. I endeavor to honor her every day.

Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show – Housewives any season, any location.

Day 17 - Favorite mini series – The fuckin' Thornbirds yo. Priest fucking the woman he knew since she was five? What part of that I am not about?

Day 18 - Favorite title sequence – another Brilliant But Canceled Candidate: Tour of Duty, Paint It Black!"

Day 19 - Best TV show cast – Homicide: Life on the Streets every year until they hired in the same year Michael Michele/Jon Seda. Now I love Jon Seda in almost everything else but he was 20 flavors of AWFUL on H:LOTS. Otherwise Party of Five. Those bitches made me cry EVERY episode of S1.

Day 20 - Favorite kiss – Okay, I am allowed more than one: Buffy/Spike FTW in "Smashed", but that's a little bit more than a mere *kiss*, I am extremely fond of Beecher/Keller in Oz S2 CHRIST was that hot, but Jeff/Annie of Community are bringing serious serious competition for best all time kiss EVA. Both the Debate Kiss (spontaneous, and passionate) and the Finale Kiss (so deliberate, and handsy and deeeeeep) have been re-watched in ways The X-Files kisses have not, excepting that gag reel one from Fight the Future which WTF why did we never get an onscreen kiss like THAT? Because Carter was jealous of the real life chemistry and former fling Anderson/Duchovny had? Survey says...YES.

Day 21 - Favorite ship – This is an otherwise evil question I would refuse to answer, but MSR/Buffy-Spike/Alvarez-O'Reilly are the answer since I view them all as essentially the same dynamic.

Day 22 - Favorite series finale – I know no one will agree, but Veronica Mars.

Day 23 - Most annoying character – Angela fucking Chase. HATE.

Day 24 - Best quote – "You're not my mom Britta, she would never wear boots that go up that high." I LOVE bitchy jealous Annie, Community

Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new) – The Shield. One. Day.

Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale – The Soprano's, yet I loved it.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode – I gotta go with Lost on this one. It was just cinematic, and Matt Fox was brilliant, and really REALLY hooks you.

Day 28 - First TV show obsession – Oh jeeze, showing my age Sunday, Monday, Happy Days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Happy Days. Thursday, Friday, Happy Days! Yeah I loved Happy Days.

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession – The Vampire Diaries Totally.

Day 30 - Saddest character death – Leon, Oz, season 1. I just....nothing has every broken me so completely. Tom Fontana is just so so so EVIL, like way more evil than Joss. I mean it's a show about people in prison you don't go into it thinking REDEMPTION cakes, and yet you find yourself so so invested in Jefferson Keane's redemption. He FEELS the fire, he EMBRACES his death sentence, despite it being a complete INJUSTICE. And yet he's set up to fail, that is the KILLER the absolute KILLER of Oz so many people in jail have been curbed like that their entire lives, yes they had choices, sucky limited, bullshit choices, and they mostly are where they are because they have no money and power to get themselves OUT. Out of the ghetto, out of jail, and those people who DO get out, lucky or determined, determined or lucky, same diff, fate, there is only enough free will to make it interesting, but no where near enough for me to condemn people for their "choices" like I'm supposed to, according to religion or the law.

Yeah I'm week late with this update on the show. Yes it DID take me a week to recover.

Another year, another great DEMF, while no single set topped the insane ripping righteousness of Glitch Mob last year, overall there were more sets and more friends this year and thus better. It would have been even better had I not managed to lose my three day armband at the I love you, but I've Chosen Techno afterparty on the FIRST night.

The highlights:

Ghostland Observatory were amazing as well with their super TRIPPY light show,and their Jack White-esque lead singer. I totally subscribe to their somewhat creepy and strange mix of techno-rock.

In retrospect it's kind of good I lost the armband I'm just not made to stay up till 4 am four days in a row.

That kiss just gets deeper and more handsy.

And fine I've been shipping the shit out of them since the Debate episode, and they have this whole Milord/Milady thing, and their sort of Knightley/Emma if Knightley were a egotistical creep, and Emma was a recovering pill popper. I love the way she spins his whole Jeff Winger mystique, and makes him less guarded and more open, and they way she draws such confidence and sophistication from their friendship. AW.

This show and in particular, my Joel McHale love snuck up on me. Initially I thought Jeff/Joel was a jerk and too smarmy to carry it off, and the female lead a harpie. Eventually they isolated him from the harpie and both characters benefited, from the distance, though he quite a bit more than she. They started throwing him into the mix of the whole cast and frequently pairing him with Annie instead of Britta who every one understandably hated. One of my favorite lines from all season was Troy telling her he wants to believe she's right, but she never quite IS. Hee so funny, because it's true.

The shows strongest elements are Abed and Troy, in the early going they often saved entire episodes with their brilliant tags, like the now infamous Spanish Rap, but as the season wore on the writing, the cast hit an amazing stride, probably best encapsulated by the episode Romantic Expressionism, in which it's made perfectly clear Jeff/Annie have not only not forgotten their smokin' kiss from earlier in the year, but continue to crush each other like whoah. STILL I feel like no matter how much Britta/Jeff suck, that they are in fact this shows OTP, and that Dan Harmon, going there this quickly with Jeff/Annie may not bode well for them in any long term sense. But I don't care man. Cause if all I have to savor is that kiss up top, and their season long arc, well shit, I'll call it good.

One of the things I've been most impressed with in the writing for the show, is Harmon's almost Hartley-esque flair for elliptical bits. If you don't know Hal Hartley, read this If Hartley Wrote Batman thing:

BATMAN: Damn, where the hell did I put that bat suit?
ROBIN: Do you think Cat Woman digs me?
BATMAN: I swear I left it in the closet in the Bat Cave.
ROBIN: Don't swear; you're a role model. Maybe I should write her poetry.
BATMAN: Role models are human; and, therefore, flawed.
ROBIN: That's no excuse. Children look up to you.
BATMAN: What makes you think Cat Woman digs you?
ROBIN: That's what Alfred said.
BATMAN: How would Alfred know?
ROBIN: When was the last time Alfred was wrong?
BATMAN: Good point.
ROBIN: Thanks.
BATMAN: Think he knows where my bat suit is?
ROBIN: Probably. Why don't you ask him?
BATMAN: I would, but he's with Cat Woman right now.
ROBIN: Do you think she digs me?
BATMAN: I don't know. Why don't you write her some poetry?
ROBIN: I'm not a poet. I'm just some lame sidekick who wears funny, ugly clothes and a stupid mask that barely conceals my vacuous identity.
BATMAN: Don't take it so hard.
ROBIN: Why not?
BATMAN: I don't know. It just seemed like the right thing to say.
ROBIN: Why say anything?.
BATMAN: I have to. I'm a role model.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I think Harmon actually does it better, in that his cast has such a comfort level that their frequent roundabouts in the study room, seem like the kind of casual riffing that so often happens when you are with your people. The first time I noticed was in the Football ep, in which Troy/Jeff throws down on Jeff's racist assumptions about black people and football/sports:

Jeff: Football is in your blood-
Troy: That's racist.
Jeff: It's in your soul-
Troy: That's racist.
Jeff: It's in your eyes-
Troy: That's Gay.
Jeff: That's homophobic.
Troy: That's Black.
Jeff: THAT'S racist.
Troy: Damn.

I noticed again in Basic Geanology, aka the ep that lead to my current haircut, thank you cute Katherine McPhee!

Shirley: You're like the booty-nator. Y'know, like, "I'll be back..", only with booty.
Troy: Why would the Bootynator be back with booty? Wouldn't he just kill it?
Abed: Well maybe he kills it, and brings it back as a trophy?
Annie: Why would he want dead booty
Troy: I want Pirate's Booty.
Jeff: I'll be back. Only with Booty.

To say they totally riff these lines like pros goes w/o saying, it's brilliantly hilarious from both a writing and acting perspective.

Finally in the penultimate episode, Pierce/Troy have a great similarly circular exchange:

Pierce: Spoiler Alert!
Troy: You mean Nerd Alert.
Pierce: Alert Nerd!

*Community was awesome tonight, my Jeff/Annie squee was at 11, he will do basically anything her doe eyes ask. He LOOOOOVES her so much. I also love Katherine McPhee and am totally gonna rock that hair when I get to the salon. I totally need a Jeff/Annie icon.

*I know everyone has seen this weeks TV Guide cover wherein they validate my Jack/Sun ship by picturing Sun ON TOP OF Jack. Win.

* I should go to bed.

* My March is filling up quickly, I'm off to Austin tomorrow, when I get back I have a Condo Meeting on the 16th, going to see Bill Grogan's Goat again in Northville on the 17th, an Obesity luncheon on the 18th, and a Three Drunk Maidens SPN party on the 27th, which I'm super psyched about and will have fab food and wine for.

* I'm also considering a trip to Florida for in May to my cousins Law School Graduation, DEMF for May,
Bonnaroo in June or Lolla in August, Tour de France September.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who offered kind words about my Aunt, I loved her SO much, and I'm still heartbroken she is gone, but hearing from friends made it easier, I love you all muchly.

Secondively, I just bought myself a sample sale hand bag as an early birthday present to myself. I blame escape_1974.

I went to see DJ Kalendar this weekend, to continue du Festival de Blixie Birth. There is a segue way in there if ya know what I'm sayin!

I then proceeded to spend the rest of the weekend chaufering Riv around. She wouldn't let me roller skate at Jumpin Jupiter with her girls. C'mon Riv, how I supposed to jam or block, or, um that other thing, if I don't practice?! When I went out w/ MY GIRLS some old dude told me I had "derby girl" all over my wicked skating styles, because I'm either a)that awesome b) a GIGANTIC cliche.

I am not sure how I will juggle adult co-ed soccer and Detroit Derby Girl assimiliation this spring. Much like Nicky Katt in Dazed and Confused I plan to a) Kick Ass b) Drink (not) beer. God forbid I run out of (not) beer.

I watched Extract this weekend and LOVED it, Ben Affleck for the win, I couldn't help but find much of his take on married life as a bit of meta, and I liked his Xanax stoner in comparison to his over the hill high school bastard in D&C. If only Gwynnie had put up with him he'd have been a pig in shit. Seriously Gwynnie Chris Martin over Ben? REALLY?! Whatever else you want to say about Garner, bitch has crazy ambition and modicum of talent, Bosworth is just a two bit Hollywood bimbo and Martin is homely adult comtemporary singer.

In a parting question if you worked out with a reasonable facsimile of adorable Scott Evans Every Day what would you do? Visually appreciate the hotness to say the least I'd think. Yeah.

Man this has been quite a week for network censors, I mean they must of all wandered off and got collectively high in a back room. I'm not complaining, because it was extremely amusing to hear/see!

The Vampire Diaries - Damon get's away with a "dickhead" last week, and this week makes overt allusions to having sexed up his brother and their vampire ex-girlfriend.

Modern Family - Dylan comically stalks his teenage ex-girlfriend and insists "I love your ass!"

Community - Troy lets us know he has "the weirdest boner".

I'm blushing 12 year old apparently, so each incident kind of surprised me. Kind of like Buffy and Spike and the zipper sound effect.

Hells Bells - S/B in this are so adorable, she's happy because she's SEEING him, she's happy he's trying to make her jealous, and she IS jealous, and did I mention how CUTE they are? Xander get's to help Buffy kick Demon ass? He comes clean to Anya that he is not ready to marry her? OMG I really do love this episode, but Willow's thing about aching for Anya, OMG fuck off Willow you lying bitch. Yay D'Hoffryn for luring Anyanka back to the dark side!

Normal Again - y'know in a weird way this makes me like Joyce/Hank more. Because it means they were not oblivious, it means they were aware/concerned. Fun AU mindfuck, and also boys likes toys..three pathetic men who like playing with toys. Just sayin'. Oooh also I love that when she's with Spike he knows what she "likes" when it comes to recovering form a night slaying beyond just sex with the love her young life. Oh and the Scoobage in this episode is wonderful, she's finally trying to tell Willow where she's *at*, but she doesn't really hear it. Yay, more Xander being useful and FUNNY, I altered his reality, he really is my boy.

Entropy Wow, I don't hate W/T in this, we see more of them getting together here than we did the first time. Sharing a room with someone you are FRIENDS with. How am I about to take this seriously when in Britain there is fifteen year old fucking/rimming??!. Aww, Spike wants a 'numbing' spell in comparison to Xander w/Cordy who wanted a love spell. I love that all our empathy is supposed to be with Spike and Anya, uh hello Buffy and Xander jerks much? I especially love that Spike = solace is continued with Anya, right before he crosses the ultimate line. The main bad part of this ep: Tara and Willow reunited as FRIENDS! But heh, she's gonna die post-coital!!

Seeing Red Hee I love the look on SMG's face when she fingers the AF's me thinks that wasn't so much with the acting! Again with the not minding W/T, I mean I MIND, but not like the full throttle meh of S4 and the active hate of S5. See S6 ROCKS so hard. Kill her Warren kill her so much! Xander incest not that sexy? Um...... I don't think I'll ever be cool with the AR as writing choice, but then I've never been big on souls w/ Angel or Spike so at least I'm consistently like BULLSHIT!!! Villains Heh, Dark Willow. I missed Willie in the Demon Bar scene. Heh one of my big problems with this ep, I can't buy that Vengeance Demon's are less powerful than Witches. Here's
the beginning of Miss Direction City. Meh, souls are stupid. I DO love the cheesy ass soul resotoring Demon. Hee.

Two To Go Aww, Demon do-gooder Anya, I choose to believe it's just to fuck with Dark Willow, not to help her. Meh. Of course I love that they give Buffy's Spike's dialogue from Becoming II. "I don't want to hurt you. Doesn't mean I won't." Aww. Giles, and ba dass scary Giles. And Clem!

Grave Whatever else this episdoes failings, Xander gets to save his friend and the world, and it makes me cry. Also Emma must have special powers to look that cute in a peter pan collar. Ooh I also liked that it's one of the first Big Bad fights they've had in the day light.

Double Meat Palace - Yeargh, by all accounts I should love this episode (aww cheesy monster show I do usually love you), but it consistently bores me. I think outside the obvious pull of the S&B scenes, Willow is my favorite part of this episode, though mostly for EAA. I think other than Andrew she was one of best recurring tertiary characters, I love that we see her become her mother essentially. OTHO seeing Buffy's cute short hair has made me decide I'm going to emulate that cut next time I hit up the hair dresser.

Dead Things - Yeah I think this episode is all kinds of brilliant, as it's like a compressed version of the season to that point, both for Buffy's arc and that of the Trio. We see good, the bad, and a whole lotta ugly between them. We see how deeply Buffy loves him, how hard she wants to reject being a girl who loves a thing like him, most powerfully of all how she trusts him. That door sex scene, OMG, so great. And regarding the Bronze sex I feel compelled to point out Spike never says you belong in the dark with me, he says you always end up in the dark with me, and you belong in the shadows, which is different. Lord her break down with Tara still kills me.

Older and Far Away - Yeah I know I just said DMP was boring, and I'm not even gonna TRY to sell anyone on this episode being "good", but I honestly enjoy it even GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT. I love that Spike/Buffy can be so casual together, even after what happened in DT, that she wants him to be there, that cute guy Xander is setting her up with is cute and yet never seems to register with her. Of course Clem! I like the call back to the Twilight Zone thing, not letting them the comparison of Dawn to that psycho little boy. Anya calling Willow out on all the addiction crap. Backbone Tara. It hits my cheese-a-rific buttons just right.

All the Way I am the good shipper drugs, because I still love this episode: it has my girl Joan Girardi aka Amber Tamblyn, it has a Nikka Costa song, it has portents of how much Anya/Xander are DOOMED, it has adorable Buffy in pigtails jumping to sex conclusions with Spike, and y'know what? Fuck anyone who can't see how unbelievably awesome Buffy and Spike were, how complex and dynamic that relationship was, how important it was to Buffy's development, it was the heights it was the depths and everything in between. They were truly epic and I will love Joss, that FUCKER forever for putting it out there for me to enjoy. We've got trouble. They're already a "we" people.

Once More with Feeling - I'm not even going to pretend my reviews for these last two seasons are anything other than all about Spike and Buffy. This is where the break with the redemptionista/overly romaticized Spike lover POV is for me. The first third of the season necessarily goes so far in establishing just how profound the connection is between Spike/Buffy, but it necessarily is one fraught with complication and pain and confusion, and the closer she gets to him physically the more brutally she rejects what she feels for him emotionally. One of the reasons I don't like Restless yet love Dracula is the "you're not the source of me" line, because YES Power is dark by it's nature. In Dracala she acknowledges the reality of this without succumbing to it rather than rejecting it outright. Oh and in non-S/B observations the Giles/Tara duet is still phenomenal, and I hate that I still hate Tara so much, because I had a beer with an unbelievably cool Amber at a con and yeah it's hard to hate on someone so humble. Oh and I love the irony of Xander's spell bringing Spike and Buffy that much closer.

Tabula Rasa - Best kisses EVA. And LORD that scene of Joan casually straddling Remption Randy is all kinds of hot. Smidge is SO SO good in this one, if ever there were a season she truly deserved the Emmy nom, it was this one.

Smashed -aka the only TV episode to literally break a vhs tape for me. "But not again" oh, Sarah's line reading kills me. It's SUCH a tragic heroing depriving herself of what is basic and needed line. Looking back the pimp chain thing still cracks me up. AS much as I love S6, and as much as I don't hate Marty et al? Those people had NO IDEA what they were doing. Joss did, always did, but Marty and Fury and DeKnight and Greenberg? No fucking way. But I like that even when Greenberg didn't get it he stumbled into getting it because he's just that strange. I heart him forever for the floating strawberry. And the audible zipper.

Wrecked - Ah, this episode is notable for the only on screen fingering I can think of I've ever seen, excepting out and out right porn. God I love Smidge/Marsters in this episode, not just the opening in the torn down house, but that she really and truly relies on him, needs him, and that he helps her and Dawn because he wants to, not because he'll get laid. I also realize that my issue with Willow and S6 is not that magic = drugs, but that magic = addiction narrative. I buy into magic addiction in the same way I buy into sex addiction aka NOT AT ALL. It oversimplifies *compulsion* and control issues.

Gone - Hee another episode I love more on rewatch. Invisible Buffy is kind of hilarious, in a hearbreaking way. "Why won't you go?" He's the one that won't leave. Hank, Angel, Riley, Giles, Joyce, she truly doesn't know how to deal with someone who will stay, who wants to stand by her til his end.

Yeah so I picked up my Buffy re-watch just in time for the year to end.

Bargaining I & II - As much as I love S6, I really disliked these two episodes, mostly because they felt the need to stretch the story out over two episodes and I'm still not convinced they couldn't have told it in one. GOD KNOWS I could have done without the fucking pancakes in bellies scene. I do adore everything Buffy Bot and bingo in your pie plate related, Spike/Dawn, and the idea of Buffy going back to the tower, but like they go through this whole good bye Giles thing only to say oh HELLO Giles like two episode later.

Afterlife - I may not have really ever been a redemptionista, but I love practically everything about this ep, the overall Evil Dead Trilogy homage, the doubling of The Gift S/B scene, and whatever Michelle Trachtenberg is GREAT in that scene. I love every smooshy sap-a-rific moment, and it never feels out of character for Spike to me. "Except today doesn't count, does it?" *sniff* The Gift connection is really important to me, as I interpret that stairway scene as Buffy actually contemplating, what Spike could mean to her if things were different, and in Afterlife, when things couldn't BE more different, the second she sees him it's like she KNOWS, it's such a huge piece of their story, especially the contrast with the Scoobs barging in, he *gives* they *need*. Also I love Buffy's Black shirt and Sarah looks so so so pretty throughout this ep.

Flooded - Oh man my love of this one is well documented. NO MORE FULL COPPER REPIPE. For all those who bitched about the lack of metaphor in the later years I think Flooded is one of the better metaphors in the series history, second only to The Pack, and please to be sucking it. Smidge again with the pretty and the good clothes. Having said that I've never been able to get worked up about the Willow/Tara sponging issue, because the whole house/money/insurance/hospital bill thing is just ASSDUMB. I love when Buffy gives Willow the death glare, not a funny ha ha death glare, but a you annoying selfish insufferable bitch death glares. Buffy, I FEEL ya girl. Tiny King, hee. Not only is this not one of the worst eps of the season it's one of the best. The bitch fight between Giles/Willow, the porch scene echoing Fool for Love. This THIS is why I love my couple. God they are adorable and team-y.

Life Serial - I was not super in love with this way back when, but on this re-watch: LOVE. What so? It's not important, it's...PAST. Thank you Joss, you are littel bit less of a Fucker this time. Shit Andres and the Death Star (that's a flawed design) and glamoured Jonathan? Kitten Poker, evil lint? What the hell was wrong with me? Again I think the metaphor is pretty solid in this one, the trio fucking with her, life (literally life) fucking with her.
