Vid: What About Farscape? (revised spiffier version)

Ah well, long ago in my vidding infancy, I ripped and vidded Farscape without a thought about interlacing, and the reason I haven't posted any of my pre-LJ Farscape videos is I can barely look at them now without cringing. I have actually spent a good deal of time this winter re-working certain vids, experimenting with Final Cut Pro's de-interlacing filters. This revision is a combination of both - new de-interlaced footage (where I could match the original timing) and filters (where I could not). I also did some color correction (something I knew nothing about originally) and resized each individual scene to get rid of the various-sized borders they came off the DVDs with. It was a ton of work, but I was happy to take the opportunity to improve upon this, my personal favorite.

I made a few scene changes, called the Ghost Busters a few times, and tightened up the timing, so imo it looks a lot cleaner. Hope you enjoy it, viewers and re-viewers alike!

Easy Silence

It is John and Aeryn (those two crazy kids from Farscape).....i don't know who has or hasn't seen it yet, as i posted it over at TF but haven't checked back in a while to see what's been happening in the thread. but i did want to post it here...before i get on to the more daunting task of uploading the pictures I took of the Lovely and Handsome Ben Browder last Month at the Farscape Con.

I used to call this Farscape video Checking Out, but that was because I thought that naming it "Heartbreak Hotel" might confuse people into thinking it was an Elvis video....not that there's anything wrong with that. I did an overhaul of this vid in December (2009), and decided to give it its "real" name.

For those who haven't seen this (and those who'd like to re-view it) the song is "I'm Checking Out" which Meryl Streep sung in the movie "Postcards From the Edge". It's an overview of Aeryn's sojourn on a mystical planet, coming to terms with the death of one Crichton, and her imminent return to Moya and the remaining Crichton.

Learning a new Fandom

I wanted to open this up for discussion, because i've been feeling the pressure to move on from Farscape (the fandom that, until recently, i've vidded well nigh exclusively) - and finally, i'm emptying the back burner of the vid ideas that've been simmering there for the past year and half and i'm ready. if not exactly to move on, then to move forward. to leave "earth", as it were.

because that's what Farscape is to me. it's home. it's the comfy couch. the sunday chicken. it's love, wrapped in every possible guise. it's my native vidding language. i'm completely fluent. and tho, occasionally i'll rewatch an episode to get the finer points, the "newer" perspective, generally i'm so imprinted with Farscape that i don't need to watch it anymore. which is a good thing. time to move forward.

and i've found a new love. it's name is Torchwood, and though it isn't quite as shattering an experience as Farscape was, it has enough "omg!!" moments that i want to reach out and kiss it. hug it. vid it. but i don't know the language. not yet. the task is how to take it from gibberish (which it is now) to some level of fluency. maybe it'll always be a second language; maybe i'll never be completely comfortable with the idiom. maybe i'll always get confused when the patter goes by too fast. but i think i can get close. the question is how? is there a berlitz for vidders?

i've been sitting in front of the screen, pad in hand, jotting down timecode for what are awesome scenes, and i've done this for a few episodes but when i think back on them, all i get are separate and distinct impressions. this worked with farscape, which i'd seen twice before the idea of vidding it even occurred to me; it could actually work with stargate, a series i've watched through three times. i know how the episodes fit together. but this isn't the way to go with a brand new series.

so back to the beginning. to "everything changes" through "exit wounds" and banishing the pen and pad. just watch it through and let it seep in. maybe write down song ideas and themes as they come to me, but not "scenes" no matter how dramatic, or incredibly shot. forget close ups and wide shots; that'll all come later. those are the idioms; the slang of Torchwood. for now i need to concentrate purely on the nouns and verbs. and maybe only present tense verbs at that. go slowly. let it sink in, and hopefully, finally, gel together so that it's one huge picture. then i can start taking pieces out of it, and putting it on a timeline.

i'm in awe of multi-fandom vidders, especially the ones that do it so well. how's it done? any secrets? or does this all sound just daft?

first let me say that i absolutely love this vid. but then, i love all my vids (the most recent the most passionately) so i think i'm not that great a judge. on the other hand, most people seem to like what i do, so maybe i'm not too far off. but i love this vid. i loved making this vid.

i did not like hitting a wall with it back in december when i started it. but i love it now. it's all new and shiny and makes me so happy to watch.....i hope you'll all feel the same. anyway,

an eventful day

I made a vid today. or at least i fine-tuned and made it all shiny so i could post it. which i will. but this post isn't about that. it's about RL and the fact that i bought a house today.....

because i have to. cause that's what it says in my divorce agreement: the "marital home" is to be sold by June 2008. so i must move house. and so, as it turns out, i found a really pretty condominum in my price range, and have to put a downpayment on it or lose it.

and see, i haven't sold my home yet. got a buyer all enthused. but so far, not signed on. so not much of anything...

financial brinkmanship. don't ya love it?

New Stargate Video: Experiment

My first non-Farscape vid and the first vid I ever posted here at LJ. It takes from the original Movie and both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. The song was written by Cole Porter for a 1933 musical. It's sung by Mandy Patinkin, who's an eccentric song stylist when he's not an eccentric actor.
