What has happened since the last update we've made, children? WELL, CHRISTMAS HAPPENED AND NEW YEAR'S AND WE ALL GOT A MONTH OLDER. Nnoitra died, manry tears were shed, I had a baby and converted to being Mormon [not really, but a doctor in the ER thought I was pregnant and I've seen way too many Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints commercials] and Ulquiorra and Ichigo are duking it over Fair Maiden Orihime. I wrote a drabble for my beloved Naviji, so enjoy it peoples.

Title: A Big Deal

Summary: Things just normally weren't like that- but this time it was different.

Having a baby had been no big deal. A lot of things about their relationship had been 'no big deal'. They didn't function on precise and correct, or planned. He had seen his friends grow and bumble about their plans- kids here and there, but Ichigo and Rukia had taken their time. They had taken their time for love, marriage, sex, and kids as well. When Rukia gave birth she had been very happy- and so had Ichigo. Buried inside both of them was the desire to nurture and care, and it had come out almost immediately, probably very early in the pregnancy itself.

But just like it was now, 2 months after giving birth, they had never once been the 'big deal' couple. If Rukia was walking down stairs Ichigo wouldn't ask for her hand and receive complaints, he was gentlemanly and simply did so because it was something that should be done for a pregnant woman. Rukia had by no means lost her dignity while pregnant, she had taken the opportunity to do light exercise. She was by no means ready to simply lie down- and none of it had been a big deal.

But a sick baby was a big deal.

It was a big deal to Rukia that her baby had been born almost immediately with inexplicable health issues- and it was all she could do to keep her calm when she was told there were bad chances involved if the baby didn't get better within a certain amount of time. But Rukia had not been the only one who faltered. Ichigo had taken one look at his very sick son and decided that it was important he do everything he can.

So things were different for Ichigo and Rukia- the couple who could shrug off inner hollows and near death experiences with only a glimpse and a nod. For once they needed to tread lightly, something they had never done, so that something they cared about could survive.

Ichigo was afraid of telling Rukia to rest in their current situation. This night marked the 6th day Rukia had been up straight. She wasn't functioning well and Ichigo had wanted to sit her down and tell her to sleep from day 2. But what could Ichigo do? He was just as confused as she was- just as worried as she was. For days it was all Ichigo could do to just get the formula, to just get the diapers, to just wait by the phone for a call from Unohana.

Ichigo had not wanted to leave home, but unfortunately Rukia's latest task for him was shopping. He worried about her, but if she didn't have some sort of peace of mind about things getting done, she would have no peace of mind at all. He had spent all day hunting down the items and then come home. He put his shopping bag down once he got inside and went into the baby's room- only to see an upsetting sight.

Rukia was holding their son, the dark circles under her eyes sticking out like a sore thumb, and nodding off. Her head was bobbing in her attempts to wake up, and yet their baby was showing some signs of actual activity, he was pulling at her shirt and making a crying noise. This eased his heart a little, and it was so discouraging to think that Rukia couldn't feel the same simple reassurance. She had been working herself to death.

“Hey, Rukia,” Ichigo said as he bent down to her level and put his hand on her shoulder. She suddenly jolted her head upwards, “Ah, sorry..yes, Ichigo?” she said in a dazed voice. He gave her a worried look, “You should be in bed you know. Don't you think you're pushing it a little?” She gave him a look that said 'I would fight you more energetically but I am too tired' she shook her head and then yawned, “He's just a baby, and it's my job to take care of hi-” Ichigo interrupted her.

“I don't think he wants to see his mom as moody as you get without sleep for too long! I know I can barely stand it,” he was teasing, but Rukia looked at him with a little appreciation. “Besides, we'll never pick out a good name at this rate, especially if you don't sleep on it.” His voice sounded grumpy and demanding but, Rukia couldn't help but smile a little. “Ah...I guess you have a point there, if I don't think of something the baby will never have a name..” she chided in return. She lifted up the baby and Ichigo quickly took him from her hands.

With the baby in one arm, he took her hand and helped her up with another. She let him guide her out of the room and then she walked over to the door of their bedroom, she looked back at him with an awkward look. “Ichigo..thanks for taking care of things.”

Ichigo grinned.

“Hey, it's no big deal right?"

so once upon a time I realized as much as I loved Byakuya/Renji, it could be written so ridiculously. most Byaren I read was melodramatic S&M stories where they were romantic lovers and I was like, "Renji? REALLY?" so I wrote this. this was written around March or so and I AM TEAM BYAKUYA/RENJI OKAY, BUT I LOVE TO POKE FUN.

disclaimer: this wasn't written as a direct influence of one fic. I am mean to Renji all on my own.

The Erotic Adventures of Byakuya and Renji

2,400+ words, hard R, warnings: bad sex and BDSM ; slight Renji/other people

Renji leaned against the door frame, tense, clothing sliding down his shoulder revealing at least the top of his tattoos. Being called into his captain's office wasn't really a big deal. So he was confused at his reaction at present. Kuchiki-taichou was swiff, brisk. He was in and out, they never had much to say to each other. Which was a good thing. Especially lately. Every time Renji saw Byakuya, he seemed colder than usual. Which was a stretch because being a frigid asshole was tops on a list of things he did well. Right under "his hair" and making people feel nervous.

Renji didn't let it get to him. He was a new transfer here and was given the position of vice captain. He should be grateful and work hard. Should being the operative word. Everything about Kuchiki Byakuya rubbed him precisely the wrong way. From his demeanor to smug face to ... everything. Renji didn't need to actually list all the reasons or he'd find himself thinking a bit too much about certain aspects of his captain, uncomfortably.

So standing in the doorway, trying to be loose, trying not to sound worried should've been easy. But there was something different in Byakuya's command. Something that seemed to be a climax to the ... it was tension, wasn't it? Tension they'd been feeling the past few weeks. It seemed to peek at this moment and Renji tried not to seem worried. What the well was he going to do? Fight him? Part of Renji seemed a bit excited at the though of crossing blades with Byakuya, but the wrong part. He'd feel a familiar but faint throbbing in all the wrong parts at the thought. The thought of Byakuya sweating, face angry, their swords pressed together, passionate and fierce.

It was amazing, Renji was more glad at this moment than anything that Byakuya couldn't read minds.

Even though it was probably written on his face. Shamefully. He felt a bit hot, but he didn't dare feel his face. He just tried to appear as casual as possible which wasn't usually a problem. He kept trying to not think of it as a problem now.

So odd how their reactions, their moods chafing in a way. Byakuya came more cold, Renji just felt hotter. Byakuya's voice was like ice when he finally addressed Renji, even though he knew he'd been standing in the door way for at least a long, hard minute now.

"Come in, are just going to stand there?"

Renji shook off all feelings of paranoia, of uncomfortable things. He just began to walk into the room until Byakuya glared and said quietly. "And close the door."

Trying not to raise his eyebrows, Renji, feeling odd to have his back turned, shut the door with a snap. At the sound of the snap, Byakuya pushed back his chair and stood up.

"I was reading some paperwork you'd done."

Nothing to worry about, said a voice in Renji's head.

Why the fuck were you worrying? another voice replied. What did you think?

Ah, said another, what did you hope?

"Yes," said Renji, trying to put on an air of confusion.

"You spelled at least three words wrong."

Caught off guard by such a minute thing, Renji felt himself saying in his defense, "I'm sure I didn't."

With a quick motion, Byakuya thrust the paper he'd been studying into Renji's hand. On the first few paragraphs were 3 red marks, made with a pen a grammar school teacher would use. The air of confusion was no longer an air at this point, it was a feeling taken on.

"Hey, this one is spelled right."

Byakuya raised his eyebrow, trying not to look surprised at what he probably perceived as sass from Renji. "Hand that back to me."

Renji coughed. "You can get a dictionary and --"

"All right then, that's two. I'm fair and will admit when I am wrong." He paused. "However, I don't allow things like this to happen in my division."

"I'll correct them now ...?"

"No, I'd rather you learn," said Byakuya.

Renji frowned and felt hot again, but not from shame or nervousness or anger but from --

"This is how we do things in my division." Byakuya surveyed Renji calmly for a moment, almost daring him to ask what, say anything. Renji, despite his conflicting feelings, did feel a bit of anger coming on. It was hard not to.

Byakuya was quiet for a moment more, and Renji felt his cock twitch, which was the worst reaction at this moment ever.

Sighing, Byakuya said, "Come forward, bend over my desk."

Renji blinked. "I uh --" More twitching. More heat. And anger, which was a very good, very good reaction! He held onto the feeling of outrage and used it to quell any feelings of the "L" word, which was followed by the letters "UST" in this context.

Byakuya slid out a desk drawer and pulled out a wooden paddle, the likes of which a school teacher would keep. Renji felt all manner of pretense that he wasn't confused, angry, and most of all, turned on as hell, slide away.

"Wait a minute!" he yelled and the sound of his own voice startled him, since it was so quiet in here, the tension thick enough to cut.

"This isn't how they ever did things in the 11th Division," Renji pointed out, a little stupidly. "Or any division I've ... ever been in. Or anywhere I've ever been."

"This is the sixth division and as I said twice and won't repeat myself again," said Byakuya, "this is how I do things in my division. You're in my division, correct?"

"Yes, sir." Fuck, he hated saying that.

"Then come forward," Byakuya said. "I won't tolerate mistakes."

"I misspelled two words," said Renji dryly, trying to talk his way out of anything. Could Byakuya see how ridiculous he was being? More importantly, could he see Renji's now pronounced erection?

"You're making this completely worse than it has to be," said Byakuya. "Come here."

Renji held up a finger. If he moved now, the black folds covering his crotch would move and he would reveal the fact that yes, he was about to be spanked by his captain and he liked the thought of that. "I could," Byakuya repeated. He could see a trace of perhaps hope gleaming through.

His captain wouldn't know anything and he could just walk out quickly.

"But of course I'm not," Byakuya sneered. He seemed to enjoy what he mistook as Renji's fear of whatever he was going to do him. Boy, he had it wrong. Renji figured everything had it wrong, especially Renji's body and sex drive.

Byakuya walked around his desk suddenly and Renji stiffened, in more ways than one. He grabbed Renji by the shoulder and pulled him over to the desk, Renji trying to keep his legs together.

"We could --" Renji shut his mouth as Byakuya bent him over. He hadn't noticed! And that was odd, because there was a lot to notice, if Renji could say so himself. Everyone was always impressed.

Oh well. Get this over with. If Byakuya-taichou didn't notice, then everything was fine.

He felt the back of every bit of his clothing being lifted up, right at that moment.

Well, shit.

Leaving Renji practically naked and sprawled on his desk, Byakuya walked around him to retrieve the paddle. And he heard a slight tsk noise issuing from his captain.

"Does this turn you on?" he asked, unexpectedly and Renji was absolutely at a loss for words.

"I -- C--" Renji felt his heart pounding his stomach somewhere.

"It does," said Byakuya, "doesn't it?"

Renji took a deep breath, closed his eyes and said quickly, "We could skip this foreplay and go straight to the sex."

Byakuya blinked and sighed again, his shoulder into it. "Was it that obvious?"

"Was ..." Renji relaxed a bit. "Yeah, I think it was."

So all of this was a set up.

"What did you want to happen?" Renji ventured quietly, still in the position, Byakya somewhere behind him.

"This happens," said Byakuya slowly, "and then ..."

"You knew it all along?"

"Of course I did."

"This was a bit much," Renji replied. "And if I can say this, Captain? Very obvious. You wrote over the words I misspelled. And you ain't much for acting, I could tell you were --"

Smack! Byakuya had hit him against the ass with his bare hand.

"That's enough," said Byakuya.

"Yes sir."

"Then you don't mind if we ...?"

Renji straightened his clothing and with a swift motion, cleared all of the belongings on Byakuya's desk with an arm.

"I have a bed," Byakuya said, coldly.

"Ah."

"This'll do." And without a second's hesitation, they were on each other, Renji bent against the desk, this time in Byakuya's arms, mouths pressed together, tongues. Oh God. He could feel his erection almost to breaking point. And Byakuya's own growing, pressed against his thigh.

Byakuya pulled away for a moment.

"What is it?"

"Well," said Renji, in his defense, trying not to be embarrassed and naked in his captain's office, "you were watching yourself in the mirror over my shoulder the whole time."

Byakuya blinked.

"And ..." Renji said slowly. "You do that whenever you talk to me as ... well ..."

Byakuya frowned. "I could be honest with you. But you wouldn't --"

"Don't bother," Renji muttered. "I know it. I know it."

"It would be best if --"

"If I leave, yeah," Renji said, pulling his clothes on as quickly as he could.

Byakuya was already dressed and putting his various objects back in his desk.

He couldn't help but feel a sense of horrible shame mixed with a sense of satisfaction. So he was bad at sex with ... sex with everyone, really. Only on the first time, he reminded himself, trying to inflate the tiny pitiful mass that was his ego. Rukia had given him two tries and he had given her an orgasm the second time. Yeah! Renji exhaled. He didn't think it could get any worse. When he was about to be paddled by Byakuya, he didn't think it could. When Byakuya saw his erection, he didn't think it could. It somehow did and in a way confirmed everything he had been hoping against.

He hated the way he felt so helpless and weak at the moment, but what could he do? Face still hot and clothing wrinkled, he walked out of the office.

Or at least tried to, he tried the first time and tripped and the second, for some reason, poked his head back in and said, "I'm sorry I--" and then finally just shut the door in his own face.

Walking down the hallway, he counted the things he could've done different and maybe there was something wrong with his biology of the set up. What if instead of that they'd gone to dinner? Or instead of that he'd hogtied Renji and put a gag in his mouth? What if they went either way next time?

He hoped mercy was a Kuchiki value.
