Resmo is a settlement in M\u00f6rbyl\u00e5nga Municipality on the island of \u00d6land, the second largest island in Sweden. The settlement is famous for its windmills and it also home to a church, which was once the center of the local parish. In addition, the settlement has around 100 inhabitants, a number that grows significantly during the summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Short History of Resmo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Resmo Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages and construction of its church began already at the end of the 11th century. The first known written mentioning of the parish is, however, dated to the first half of the 14th century. The parish acted as the local government until the the Swedish Municipal Reform of 1862. This was when the parish’s responsibilities were split between the church congregation and the new civic government of Resmo Municipality. The municipality was in 1952 incorporated into M\u00f6rbyl\u00e5nga Municipality. The church congregation is since 2006 a part of the Resmo-Vickleby Congregation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to Do and See<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Resmo has a long history that has left many signs in the surrounding landscape. There are many ancient remains such as burial mounds and stone formations. There is also the old parish church that is one of the oldest of its kind in Sweden and many old buildings that once created the center of this old parish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resmo Church<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The white stone church was inaugurated in the 12th century. It was once the seat of the local parish and is considered to be one of the oldest medieval churches that is still in use in Sweden today. The church is today a part of the Resmo-Vickleby Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resmo Windmills<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The island of \u00d6land is known for its many windmills and especially the rows of windmills that can be found in many places. In Resmo there is a row of a total of three windmills just to the south of the populated area. It strands just next to the rest area and is an easy stop for anyone passing by. The three windmills are accompanied by a larger grave field to the south. Near the windmills are two significant sights, one is the two-meter high burial mound Gynge H\u00f6g<\/em>, and the other is the triangular stone formation Resmo Treudd<\/em> that marks another burial site. The field with ancient remains continues all the way to nearby Mysinge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resmobacken<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Resmobacken is just to the north of the settlement and is home to one more windmill. It is located between the farmlands of the west and the area of alvar to the east. It is also one of the gateways to the hiking area Nunnedalen. Nunnedalen is a narrow forested area and the hiking path is about four kilometers long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
