Dilln\u00e4s, or Dilln\u00e4sby, is a settlement in the historical province of S\u00f6dermanland. This is the location of the medieval parish church for what was earlier Dilln\u00e4s Parish. This area is currently a part of Gnesta Municipality in eastern Sweden and it is to the north of the locality of Gnesta, on a small hill close to Lake Kl\u00e4mmingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Short History of Dilln\u00e4s<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dilln\u00e4s Parish has its origins in the Middle Ages and its church was probably built during the 12th century. The parish was in operation until the Swedish Municipal Reform of 1862. This was when its responsibilities were split between the local government of Dilln\u00e4s Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality became in 1941 one of the parts in the establishment of G\u00e5singe-Dilln\u00e4s Municipality, which the same year became a part of Daga Municipality. In 1974 this was incorporated into Nyk\u00f6ping Municipality and so remained until Gnesta Municipality was split from Nyk\u00f6ping in 1992. Gnesta Municipality came to include several smaller surrounding parishes, including Dilln\u00e4s. It is since 2006 a part of the Daga Congregation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to Do and See<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The small picturesque settlement of Dilln\u00e4sby is joined by the medieval Dilln\u00e4s Church. Small forests, farmlands, and countryside roads surround the area. The church might not have an impressive tower, but there is instead a nice view from this small hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The church is a small stone church with a wooden tower. It is believed to have been built in the 12th century or in the early years of the 13th century. A fire destroyed a large part of the church in the 17th century, but it was restored and this was also when the last major alterations took place. The church is today a part of the Daga Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
