Markim is a small settlement and former parish in the historical province of Uppland<\/a> in eastern Sweden. This is a farming landscape with the church in its center. The area is today a part of Vallentuna Municipality within Stockholm County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Short History of Markim<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Markim Parish had its origins in the Middle Ages. The parish church is believed to have been built in the 13th century. The parish existed until the Swedish municipal reforms of 1862. This was when the parish operations were split between the local government of Markim Municipality and the church congregation. The municipality became 1952 a part of Vallentuna Municipality while the church congregation is a part of Vallentuna Congregation since 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to Do and See<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Markim is in the countryside in the northern parts of Stockholm County. This gives the area easy access to the more urban areas, something that is not noticeable when walking along the fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Markim Church<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The parish church was probably built in the early 12th century but has seen a few alterations since. It is a stone church without an integrated tower. The red wooden clock tower is instead standing close by. The church is today a part of Vallentuna Congregation within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Runstone U325<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Several runestones have been discovered within the old parish borders. Today, one of these stands outside the church, this is Runestone U325. This stone is split into four parts that up until 1942 a part of the church. One part of the stone is still missing and is believed to still be a part of the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
