Fridlevstad is a locality in the province of Blekinge<\/a> in southern Sweden. This was originally a settlement that grew around the church of the parish with the same name. There are about 680 inhabitants living along the streets that have been named after previous priests of the parish such as Hallb\u00e4ck, Gyllenskepp, Hovlund, Bager, and Murbeck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Short History of Fridlevstad<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fridlevstad has for centuries been the center of the parish with the same name. The parish has its origins in the Middle Ages and so has the foundation of the church. The church is believed to be one of the oldest ones in the province of Blekinge and was probably built at the end of the 12th century or early 13th century. Its survival up until today is questionable. During its first century, this was a part of Denmark and the church was burned and plundered by the Swedes in the second half of the 16th century. It is the foundation of the church that has survived. The settlement and the rest of Blekinge became a part of Sweden with the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The civilian government and the church were split in 1862 when Fridlevstad Municipality and Fridlevstad Congregation were established. The municipality was 1974 merged into the larger Karlskrona Municipality. The congregation has since been merged with the nearby congregations of Sillh\u00f6vda and Tving<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to Do and See<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The lack of prominent buildings doesn’t mean that there is nothing to see in this small locality. The many countryside roads, large fields, and forests make it possible to enjoy the Swedish countryside without much effort. Either walk or ride your bike along the roads and maybe you end up seeing some old farmstead or croft along the many fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fridlevstad Church<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The church from the Middle Ages is still the most prominent and historical building in the area. It is a white stone church with an external clock tower. The red wooden clock tower was built in 1749. The church and clock tower are surrounded by the local graveyard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
