If you live in a legal state, buying cannabis-derived THC gummies is as easy as going to your local liquor shop.

If you reside in a non-legal state, your only option is hemp-derived THC gummies.

Fortunately, some contain higher THC content, giving you effects similar to marijuana edibles.

This review covers eight of the highest-quality legal THC gummies, including Area 52’s UFO Max Gummies, the most potent (legal) D9 gummies we could find.

If you’re looking for the most potent legal THC gummies on the market, look no further. Area 52 has designed the UFO Max Gummies in such a way that they can accommodate a whopping 15 mg of THC while remaining under the federal limit of 0.3%. They’ve achieved this by increasing the weight of each gummy.

These gummies come in packs of 30 in a natural mango flavor enhanced with terpenes from the “Green Crack” cannabis strain. Each gummy contains 15 mg of delta-9 THC, 100 mg of CBD, and 5 mg of CBG. The cannabinoids are obtained from US-grown hemp through a supercritical CO2 extraction technique, resulting in high-quality extracts without chemical residues.

If you want to use legal THC recreationally, the UFO Max gummies are the best option. If they sound a bit too potent for your liking, they also offer a 5 mg version — the regular UFO gummies.

Area 52 also sells a range of other high-quality legal THC products, such as THCA vapes, THC tinctures, and delta-8 gummies

  • Focuses on sustainable practices and does its part to use clean products and locally sourced hemp.
  • Some of the best-tasting gummies around, thanks to Finest Labs’ expertise in terpenes.
  • Smooth-hitting gummies provide a touch of euphoria and a gentle buzz that still allows you to go about your day.
  • Gummies are vegan, which can be hard to come by.
  • Lower potency might not appeal to those wanting intensity.

If delta-9 THC is a little strong for you, delta-8 gummies may be a better option. The Finest Labs delta-8 gummies induce similar effects to delta-9 THC gummies but are much milder. Delta-8 produces a much more functional high with less chance of experiencing the anxiety and paranoia that are sometimes associated with cannabis and delta-9 THC.

Each gummy contains 25 mg of pure delta-8 THC. The gummies are Farm Bill-compliant, containing less than 0.3% D9 THC, and are made from US-grown hemp. They come in packs of 30 in a delicious strawberry flavor. They’re ideal for functional use and people who are more sensitive to the effects of regular THC.

Want something other than gummies? Finest Labs has that, too. Its Delta 8 Tincture is the perfect replacement. It’s easy to take when you’re out and want to be discreet. Simply use the measured dropper to drop the dose under your tongue. Hold it there for a minute and then wait for half an hour for the effects to start.

Royal CBD Full-Spectrum Gummies

Flavor: Fruity

THC Potency: 2 mg

Dose: 1–2 Gummies

Quantity per pack: 30 gummies

  • Well-known for having some of the best CBD products around.
  • Lab-tested by third-party labs to verify the product is clean and potent.
  • More affordable than some brands while retaining the highest quality.
  • Low THC for those who prefer to avoid it but would like its benefits.
  • Limited flavors available, giving customers no choice.

A pioneer in the industry, Royal CBD is known for its collection of CBD products, from oils to gummies. The company uses a supercritical CO2 extraction method to extract the cannabinoids from legal hemp, a method that’s clean, safe, and doesn’t leave toxic residues.

One bottle of their Full-Spectrum CBD Gummies contains 30 gummies with a total of 750 milligrams of CBD. Each gummy has 25 mg of CBD and 2 mg of THC and has a natural fruity flavor. The gummies underwent lab testing by a reliable third party and were found free of toxic residues and other harmful microorganisms and compounds.

Now, you might be wondering why their CBD-rich gummies deserve a spot on our list of THC gummies, right? But here’s the thing: if you’re after a deeply relaxing experience, their CBD gummies are a good option. They’re the best gummies when you simply want to wind down and relax. CBD gummies are also better than THC gummies at relieving pain, but the best is when the two are combined (like in Royal’s).

However, if you want to avoid the sugar or would like faster effects, Royal has a Full-Spectrum Tincture that comes in three potencies. The strongest is the 2500 mg bottle, which has 83 mg of full-spectrum oil per dropper (1 mL).

4. Koi Delta-9 THC Gummies

Rating: ★★★☆☆ 3.0

Flavor: Mango, watermelon, strawberry, lime, and blue-razz

THC Potency: 10 mg

Dose: 2 Gummies

Quantity per pack: 10, 20, or 60 gummies

Pros and Cons

  • Third-party tested so customers can verify the product's safety.
  • Decent selection of popular flavors well-liked by most people.
  • Money-back guarantee, in case you aren't happy.
  • Unknown ingredient list could be a concern for some users.
  • Expensive compared to other brands with equal quality.

Koi CBD manufactures a range of high-quality cannabinoid supplements. Their delta-9 THC gummies aren't the strongest on the market, but they're reasonably priced and a good option for beginners and people with a lower tolerance to THC.

Each gummy contains CBD and THC in a 2:1 blend — 20 mg of CBD and 10 mg of delta-9. These cannabinoids are extracted from US-grown hemp using a CO2 extraction technique. They're made from all-natural ingredients, are GMO-free, and come in a choice of five flavors.

Mango, lime, watermelon, strawberry, and blue-razz flavors are available in bottles of 10, 20, and 60 pieces. A variety pack containing all five flavors is offered in the 20 and 60-piece pack sizes.

Although these aren't the best option for recreational use, they're a good choice for microdosing (when divided) or inducing a milder experience.

5. 3CHI Delta-8 Gummies

Rating: ★★★☆☆ 3.0

Flavor: Black raspberry, watermelon, strawberry

THC Potency: 25 mg

Dose: 1 Gummy

Quantity per pack: 8 or 16 gummies

Pros and Cons

  • Well-known and long-standing brand with plenty of experience and customer reviews.
  • Made with vegan ingredients and US-grown hemp.
  • Packaging is child-proof, making them safer to have around.
  • Some lab reports are over a year old; within a year is ideal.
  • Made with some artificial colors and flavors, making them less than ideal for some people’s diets.

3CHI is an innovative CBD brand and one of the pioneers who revolutionized the delta-8 industry. This and the fact that their products are all third-party tested are the reasons why they’re on our list.

The delta-8 gummies are sourced from legal hemp with less than 0.3% THC. They come in a resealable pack of 8 or 16 gummies per pack, with each gummy containing around 25 mg of delta-8 THC. It’s a good enough concentration that can get you pretty buzzed.

You’ll also find other delta-8 and 9 products in 3CHI, such as vapes, tinctures, and drinks. They also offer HHC vapes and edibles.

6. Exhale THC Delta-8 Gummies

Rating: ★★★★★ 5.0

Flavor: Fruity

THC Potency: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg of delta 8

Dose: 1 Gummy

Quantity per pack: 30 gummies

Pros and Cons

  • Ideal for those who are health-conscious since these are made from all-natural ingredients and are vegan-friendly.
  • Come in a variety of potencies, up to 100 mg D8 per gummy.
  • Backed by a satisfaction guarantee, though it’s limited.
  • Products are on the expensive side and not easy on the wallet.
  • Some lab reports need to be updated so customers can be certain their product is safe, and the information is accurate.

With headquarters in Los Angeles, California, Exhale Wellness was launched by a team of experts from the natural food industry. Knowing the need for safe and organic hemp products, they teamed up with accredited hemp farms in Colorado and crafted some of the best products in the industry, one of which is their THC Gummies.

These gummies make use of full-spectrum delta 8 extract and all-natural, plant-based flavoring. You can rest assured these gummies contain no artificial flavors or colorings.

One bottle contains 30 pieces of fruit-flavored gummies. They also come in a variety of potencies — 750 mg, 1500 mg, and 3000 mg of delta 8 THC per bottle. This gives each gummy at least 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg of delta 8, respectively.

Exhale’s THC gummies deserve a spot on our list. We enjoyed the taste, and the gummies are pretty potent.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ 2.0

Flavor: Multi-flavored

THC Potency: 5 mg of THC, 25 mg of CBD

This ends our list of the best THC gummies in the market. We bought and tried all of them to give you fair reviews.

With all the talk about delta-8 and 9, though, what exactly are they?

What Are THC Gummies?

THC gummies are edible candies that contain tetrahydrocannabinol of some kind — usually delta-9. There are two kinds: those made from marijuana and those made from hemp.

Hemp-derived THC gummies are federally legal in the United States, provided they meet certain conditions.

Hemp-Derived THC Gummies

Hemp-derived THC gummies are federally legal in the United States as long as they contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by weight. They are widely available to purchase online and in physical stores in states where hemp-derived THC products are legal.

It should be okay to consume hemp-derived products. But if we’re talking about THC derivatives and analogs like delta-8 and THCP, we suggest checking your state laws first. Some states like Colorado and California banned delta 8.

Marijuana-Derived THC Gummies

Marijuana-derived gummies generally contain higher levels of THC because they’re not subject to the same regulations as hemp. However, they are federally illegal in the United States. They are subject to state-specific cannabis regulations and are only legally available in states where cannabis is legalized for medical or recreational use.

If you reside in a fully legal state, consuming cannabis-derived THC gummies should be okay. However, do not cross state borders with them, as it’s illegal to transport cannabis-derived products, even if you’re just traveling from one legal state to another.

How Are the THC Analogs Different?

Their sources may differ, but what’s important to note is that any form of THC — delta-9, for example — is exactly the same on a molecular level. Regardless of whether it’s sourced from hemp or cannabis, their molecular structure is the same. A gummy containing 20 mg of hemp-derived THC will get you just as high as 20 mg of cannabis-derived THC.

Through special processes, we’ve been able to create different forms of delta-9 THC, one of which is delta-8 THC.

Safely Using THC Gummies: Dosage & More

If you’re new to THC or edibles, there are a few things you should know before diving in.

THC is safe for most people, but it can cause you to be incredibly uncomfortable if you take too much. Start with a low dose, around 2-5 mg, and wait a good hour or two before deciding if you need more or not.

A 10 mg gummy can take two hours to kick in, peak around the third hour, and last 6-8 hours, sometimes more depending on your personal metabolism. If you’re wondering how much 10 mg is, one joint has about 12 mg of THC, so it’s a decent amount for most people.

What Are the Different Types of THC?

There are several different types of THC. Delta-9 THC is the most prevalent and strongest obtainable form found in cannabis and hemp. Delta-8 THC is less prevalent (found in concentrations below 1%), and other types, such as THCA, are non-psychoactive but can be metabolized to delta-9 THC.

Delta-9 THC, delta-8 THC, THCP, THCA, and HHC are the most commonly used hemp-derived forms used in “legal THC products.”

1. Delta-9 THC

Delta-9 THC

Delta-9 THC is the most well-known and potent psychoactive compound in cannabis. It’s this cannabinoid (in combination with other lesser compounds) that’s responsible for the “high” associated with marijuana use. Delta-9 is the most prevalent form of THC in cannabis and hemp, found in concentrations as high as 34% in cannabis and lower than 0.3% in hemp.

Delta-9 THC provides strong psychoactive effects, including euphoria, relaxation, and altered sense of reality. It can also stimulate appetite and give you “the munchies.”

This THC form is federally illegal in the United States and many other countries worldwide. However, it’s legal in the US, provided it’s hemp-derived and present in concentrations less than 0.3% (by weight).

2. Delta-8 THC

Delta-8 THC is mildly psychoactive, offering a more subtle and less intense high compared to delta-9 THC. It’s much less prevalent in cannabis compared to delta-9 THC, being found in concentrations below 1%. Because of this, to acquire delta-8 THC, manufacturers must convert CBD to D8 through a process called isomerization.

Delta-8 THC is federally legal in the United States, provided it’s derived from hemp. However, some states have banned the substance under state law.

3. THCP

THCP (tetrahydrocannabiphoral) is the strongest form of THC, coming in at up to 33% more potent. Companies will add it to THC products to increase their strength, though some states have banned THCP along with delta 8 and other analogs.

If you choose THCP, be careful and start with a low dose so you can see how it affects you.

4. THCA

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the non-psychoactive precursor to delta-9 THC. It does not produce any psychoactive effects in its raw form. However, when heated, it goes through a process of decarboxylation, which metabolizes it into delta-9 THC.

THCA is abundant in hemp and cannabis. It’s federally legal and legal under most state laws in the United States if it's derived from hemp.

This cannabinoid is only effective when heated because of its inactive raw state.

5. HHC

HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) is a hydrogenated form of THC that’s psychoactive. It’s less potent than delta-9 THC but can still produce a noticeable high. HHC is not naturally present in cannabis or hemp. It must be produced by hydrogenating (adding hydrogen carbons) to delta-8 or delta-9 THC.

HHC exists in a legal gray area. It’s federally legal in the United States if it’s hemp-derived, but some states have specifically banned the cannabinoid regardless of its source.

6. THCP

THCP (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is also a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in nature. Similar to delta 9 THC, THCP is also psychoactive, with some saying it’s 30 times more potent than delta 9.

This novel cannabinoid is pretty rare, and the plant only produces trace amounts of THCP. To increase the amount, we typically convert hemp-derived CBD to THCP using a special process.

Like other THC derivatives produced in a lab setting, THCP also exists in a legal gray area. Some states banned its sale and use despite hemp-derived products being legal under the 2018 Farm Bill.

FAQs: THC Gummies & Other Legal THC Products

Want to learn more about THC gummies and other types of legal THC products?

Check out the answers to the frequently asked questions we’ve received below:

1. What’s the Strongest Type of THC Gummy?

There are several different types of THC gummies — some federally legal and others that are only legal in “green states.”

The strongest type of THC gummy contains delta-9 THC and is made using cannabis. However, these gummies aren’t federally legal. Cannabis gummies can contain anywhere from 5 mg up to 100 mg of THC per piece, though 5-10 mg is average and considered a good THC level.

The strongest federally legal THC gummy contains delta-9 THC derived from hemp. Although these gummies contain less than 0.3% THC by weight, brands such as Area 52 have increased the weight of their gummies to accommodate 15 mg of THC per piece. That’s more than enough to get you high.

2. What’s the Best Type of Legal THC Vape

THC Vape

The best type of legal THC vape for you depends on what you expect from the vaping experience, how sensitive you are to THC, and how strong a high you want to induce.

If you’re looking for a legal vape that’s as close to a cannabis-derived product as possible, your best bet is a THCA vape. THCA is a non-psychoactive precursor of delta-9 THC and won’t get you high in its normal form. When heated in a vaporizer, it becomes decarboxylated and converts to delta-9 THC.

THCA vapes, such as Area 52’s THCA disposables and carts, provide a high that’s typical of cannabis.

If you’re more sensitive to THC and want to induce a more “functional” high, delta-8 THC may be a better option. This cannabinoid is less potent compared to delta-9 THC. Delta-8 vapes such as Finest Lab’s delta-8 carts provide a high similar to cannabis that’s more subtle, less anxiety-inducing, and much more functional.

Most come in different strains, allowing for greater control over the effects. Check the cannabinoid and terpene profile if you want the strongest or longest-lasting strain instead of looking for sativas or indicas.

3. How Many Kinds of THC Are There?

To date, about 20 distinct THC cannabinoids have been identified. Of the THC analogs, the following are the most studied and comprehended:

  • Delta-9 THC

  • Delta-8 THC

  • Delta-10 THC

  • THCA

  • THCV

  • THCP

Delta-9 is the most common THC cannabinoid. Cannabis is illegal in most countries because of this form. When compared to other THC analogs, it is the most abundant. It can be found in cannabis at up to 35% concentration and in hemp at less than 0.3% concentration.

4. Which Way Is Best for Taking THC Gummies?

To begin with, taking THC gummies on an empty or full stomach is safe and acceptable. You will simply experience the effects in a different way. Eating edibles on an empty stomach will have stronger and quicker effects. However, if you take THC gummies on a full stomach, it may take some time for the effects to manifest.

To avoid side effects, we advise against taking THC edibles on an empty stomach if you're new to using them. Additionally, we advise starting with half a gummy and waiting a few hours before taking another bite. Keep in mind that the effects of edibles can take anywhere from 30 minutes to approximately two hours to manifest. You risk becoming overwhelmed and having a negative experience if you take too much too soon.

5. What are the Factors to Consider When Buying THC Gummies?

The most important factors when buying THC gummies include:

  • Brand and product reputation, so make reading reviews and feedback a habit.

  • Lab testing results, so always look for the product’s certificate of analysis.

  • Extraction method, the safest and cleanest of which is the supercritical CO2 extraction method.

Area 52 is one of the best brands for THC gummies because they’ve mastered the formulas. The company’s UFO Max Gummies give the best high, thanks to high levels of delta 9 and CBD that work together.
