<h1>Scenic Science on the Waterfront: </h1><h1><em>Picture a Scientist</em> at Ontario Place</h1><h3>Date: Thursday, August 27, 2020</h3><h3>Time: 7-10 p.m.</h3><h3>Location: Waterfall Stage at West Commons, Ontario Place </h3><p>Science is full of brilliant minds and unique perspectives. But what happens when some minds are valued more than others, some voices silenced? Picture a Scientist explores how sexism and racism shape the experiences of women, including women of colour, in science.</p><p>This evening of learning will begin with a pre-recorded panel discussion with geomorphologist Jane Willenbring, PhD, and chemistry professor Raychelle Burks, PhD, both of whom appear in the film, as well as Angela Saini, author of <em>Inferior: How Science Got Women Wrong—and the New Research That’s Rewriting the Story</em>. This book, which addresses themes covered by <em>Picture a Scientist</em>, is an excellent companion read for the film. <p>Please note that <em>Picture a Scientist</em> contains sensitive subject matter, including mature themes and some strong language. It is best suited for children over the age of 12.</p>

<h2>Event Details</h2><p>This is a rain or shine event. In the event of lightning, a cancellation email will be sent to all registered participants no less than 4 hours before the start time. </p><h3>Social Distancing &amp; Safety Information</h3><p>The capacity for this event is limited to 100 visitors. To comply with social-distancing requirements, social squares (8’ x 8’) have been painted on the ground with 2 metres of space between each square. Each square will contain a small table and four chairs. <strong>If your group is more than four people, you will need to occupy multiple squares. </strong></p><p>To ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees, the following protocols will also be in place:</p><ul><li>To avoid lines, access to the site is available at 6:15 pm.</li><li>An RSVP list will be used for touch-free check-in. No physical ticket is required. Please have proof of identity available for entry to the event.</li><li>Tickets will not be available on-site on the day of the event.</li><li>Staff and visitors will maintain a distance of at least 2 metres from anyone outside of their immediate household or social circle. </li><li>As this is an outdoor event, masks are encouraged but not required. If it is not possible to maintain a 2-metre distance from others, please wear a mask.</li><li>Indoor washrooms are available onsite. In accordance with<a href="https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/bylaws/2020/law0541.pdf" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> City of Toronto By-Law 541-2020</a>, masks are required in the washroom facilities.</li><li>If you are feeling unwell, please stay home. The West Entrance at Ontario Place provides the most direct access to this area of the site.</p>

<h3><strong>Travelling by Car</strong></h3><p>For the West Entrance use Parking Lot 1, accessible via Remembrance Drive. Rates and information on accessible parking can be found on the <a href="http://ontarioplace.com/en/about/visit-us/parking/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ontario Place website</a>. </p><h3>Coming from the West</h3><ul><li>Follow Gardiner Expressway East, then take the Lake Shore Blvd West Exit to travel east along Lake Shore until you reach 955 Lake Shore Boulevard West, OR </li><li>Travel along the Gardiner Expressway East and take the Jameson Avenue Exit, then merge onto Lake Shore Boulevard West. </li><li>For the West Entrance use <a href="http://ontarioplace.com/en/about/visit-us/parking/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Parking Lot 1</a>, accessible via Remembrance Drive.</li></ul><h3>Coming from the East</h3><ul><li>Follow Gardiner Expressway West, then take the Lake Shore Boulevard exit from Gardiner Expressway West to travel west along Lake Shore. </li><li>For the West Entrance use <a href="http://ontarioplace.com/en/about/visit-us/parking/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Parking Lot 1</a>, accessible via Remembrance Drive.</li></ul><h3><strong>Public Transportation</strong></h3><h3>Travelling by TTC</h3><ul><li>The <a href="http://www.ttc.ca/Routes/121/Westbound.jsp" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">121D </a>(Ontario Place-Cherry Beach) branch, which connects to the Subway at Union Station has two stops within Ontario Place at Remembrance Drive and Ontario Place Boulevard and at Remembrance Drive and Ontario Place Boulevard – Centre Entrance. Bike racks can be found at each entrance.</li></ul>
