J.R. Stork Bridge Replacement
All Niagara Region projects
About the project
The J.R. Stork Bridge (structure 038205) is located on Martindale Road (Regional Road 38) in St. Catharines approximately 1.1 kilometres north of the Queen Elizabeth Way. It carries Martindale Road over Martindale Pond / Richardson Creek.
The structure, originally constructed in 1967, has one lane in each direction with a sidewalk on the east side. Niagara Region completed an analysis of the bridge in 2019 and recommends the replacement of the J.R. Stork Bridge.
The project includes the complete replacement of the existing structure, as well as the reconstruction of the approaches on either side of the bridge.
This project is being undertaken in coordination with the Water and Wastewater department. It includes replacement of the existing watermain crossing under Richardson Creek.
Traffic impacts
Martindale Road must be closed to traffic from Main Street (Regional Road 87) to South Service Road (Regional Road 40) during construction to complete the removal and replacement of the bridge.
Martindale Road from Courtland Street to Dalemere Boulevard will be fully closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the work. Local access to Courtland Street will remain from South Service Road. Dalemere Boulevard can be accessed from Main Street.
