Mayor's statement on the passing of OPP Constable Tarun Bali

On behalf of the Council and residents of the City of Kitchener, I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and Ontario Provincial Police family of Constable Tarun Bali, following his tragic line of duty death yesterday, near Hearst, ON.

Constable Bali was a valued member of our City of Kitchener Bylaw Enforcement team from 2021-2023, prior to joining the OPP. Tarun’s passing is being met with sadness but he will be fondly remembered by his Kitchener colleagues for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, infectious smile, and warm and approachable personality.  Tarun made a lasting impression on those around him and his kindness and dedication will not be forgotten.

Our first responders and enforcement officials dedicate their lives to public service, recognizing there are risks that come with their roles, but always with the belief they will return home at the end of their shift. Sadly, this tragic incident at just 29 years of age, has resulted in Constable Bali leaving all of us at a far too young age.

Our community joins all those who knew Constable Bali, in mourning his passing and commemorating him as a Hero in Life.  We will be lowering flags at all City buildings until the day of his memorial service, in memory of Constable Tarun Bali and his service to our community and the people of Ontario.

Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, on behalf of Kitchener Council
