About the project

The Grimsby (Baker Road) Wastewater Treatment Plant is at 160 Lake St. in Grimsby. Niagara Region owns and operates the plant. It treats wastewater from homes, businesses and hauled sewage in Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln. The plant uses a standard activated sludge treatment process. Treated water is discharged into Lake Ontario.

The rated capacity of the plant is 31.3 million litres of wastewater a day during normal conditions. During dry weather, it can manage up to 62.2 million litres a day, and during wet weather, up to 120 million litres.

The 2021 Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan Update recommends adding capacity at the plant to treat 16 million more litres a day. This increase will support expected growth in the Grimsby area.
