Title: Equipment Mechanic (Ladera GC)

Description: Position Summary **Inspect vehicles and make minor repairs to small and medium powered equipment; provide warehouse supplies to fields crews; maintain warehouse supply records and perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.** _Job descriptions are intended to present a general list of tasks/duties performed by employees within this job classification. Job s are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job._ Essential and Supplemental Functions **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:** Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. 1. Perform maintenance and repair duties involving gasoline and diesel engines, small and medium power equipment including compactors, paving breakers, compressors, pneumatic tools and power saws and other power driven equipment; keep records on the status of all equipment. 2. Provide a supply service for field crews; work with field supervisors in issuing supplies needed to complete daily work. 3. Submit monthly maintenance reports to assigned supervisory or management staff for vehicles, equipment, warehouse and purchased supplies. 4. Ensure that all vehicles and equipment receive necessary and proper repairs; ensure that all costs are proper and conform to normal price rate structures. 5. Ensure that vehicles are properly filled with oil, gasoline and water in preparation for daily usage by field crews and supervisors. 6. Maintain vehicle and equipment maintenance records for control, cost analysis and budget purposes; initiate and maintain a record system to include cost of material, invoices and warehouse purchase requisitions. 7. Implement and maintain an overall inspection system for the proper maintenance of assigned vehicles and/or equipment. 8. May order, receive and verify shipments of stock items. 9. Replace or repair faulty parts including wheel bearing, clutches, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms and related parts and equipment. 10. May tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and reconditioning and adjusting carburetors, throttle body and fuel injection systems and propane fuel systems; repair and maintain emission control and alternative fuel systems. 11. May repair and replace components including generators, distributors, relays, lights, switches and high voltage light systems; repair, adjust and replace brake systems including wheel cylinders, masters cylinders, disk pads, machine drums and rotors, hydraulic and air brakes; diagnose and repair electrical and charging systems of Hybrid mowers/equipment. 12. Weld, fabricate and assemble parts and equipment; fabricate and modify tools as needed. 13. May grind cutting units and adjust accordingly to manufacturer's specification to include rotary and reel type mowers. **SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:** 1. May direct the work of lower level equipment mechanic staff. 2. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements _ **Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.** _ High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours of vocational training in mechanical equipment or repair; _ **and** _ Two (2) years of experience performing minor and major equipment repair. **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:** Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. Working Conditions **Environmental:** Shop environment; exposure to dust, grease, noise and fumes; work in confined spaces. **Physical:** Essential and supplemental functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, bending or crouching for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
