Active DFA Programs


Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) programs may be established when a natural disaster occurs and has the following:

  • a defined start and end date
  • a disruption of essential goods and services
  • damages to vital infrastructure
  • widespread damage to property or the environment
  • significant financial burden

The following events have an established DFA Program:


2026 June Heavy Rains

Manitoba has established a DFA program for the 2026 June Heavy Rains.

  • Program Announcement Date: June 11, 2026
  • Deadline to request DFA: September 9, 2026
Primary residences, farms, businesses and non-profit organizations

Primary residences, farms, businesses and non-profit organizations with impacts related to the heavy rains may apply to the DFA program.

Insurable damages are not eligible for DFA. Secondary properties such as cottages are never eligible for DFA. In addition, DFA does not assist with loss of income, revenue, wages, market share or opportunity.

  • Deadline to submit invoices and event related expenses: June 11, 2027
Municipalities

Municipalities can apply by submitting a Council Resolution and Community Impact Statement. Refer to the Local Authorities DFA webpage.

  • Municipalities accepted into the program have until June 11, 2027 to submit costs related to responding to the disaster.
  • Municipalities accepted into the program have until June 11, 2028 to submit costs related to restoring uninsurable infrastructure or for relief and recovery supports.

2025 Wildfires

Manitoba has established a DFA program for the 2025 Wildfires. Municipalities affected by the 2025 wildland urban interface fires either directly or indirectly (as a host community) can request DFA for municipal costs.

Municipalities can apply by submitting a Council Resolution and Community Impact Statement. Refer to the Local Authorities DFA webpage.

  • Program Announcement Date: October 1, 2025 (News Release)
  • Deadline to request DFA: November 30, 2025
  • Municipalities accepted into the program have until October 1, 2026 to submit costs related to responding to the disaster.
  • Municipalities accepted into the program have until October 1, 2027 to submit costs related to restoring uninsurable infrastructure or for relief and recovery supports.

Insurable damages are not eligible for DFA, whether insurance was purchased or not. Secondary properties such as cottages are never eligible for DFA. In addition, DFA does not assist with loss of income, revenue, wages, market share or opportunity.
