We’re #hiring: Senior Programmes Officer (Temporary Cover, full-time) A typical day on the job might include: 🟡 Speaking with grantee partners to understand emerging needs and identify how ILGA-Europe can best support their work. 🟡 Reviewing reports and notes from the previous phase of the programme and drawing out key learning and recommendations for future work. 🟡 Facilitating an online exchange session with activists working on base building. 🟡 Meeting with colleagues to discuss developments in your portfolio and identify opportunities to strengthen the impact of our work across teams. 🟡 Providing feedback and support to a grantee partner on their request for changes in the scope of their project and budget. 🟡 Working on an internal programme reflection document that brings together developments, learning and recommendations from across the portfolio. 🟡 Thinking through how to create a meaningful experience for participants at an upcoming in-person meeting. A great listen on solidarity, collective power and coming together within and across social justice movements in the face of rising authoritarianism and anti-rights oppression.
In the latest episode of The Frontline, we bring together leading voices from across Europe to explore a question that is becoming harder to ignore: how do we defend rights when the political environment itself is becoming more hostile? Across Europe and beyond, LGBTI people and other marginalised communities are facing renewed pressure as democratic protections are tested and, in some cases, rolled back. This is not random or isolated, it reflects broader, coordinated political shifts that demand serious attention and response. Host Micah Grzywnowicz (Executive Director of IPPF European Network and board member of ILGA-Europe) is joined by: 🎙️ Jolyon Maugham (Good Law Project) 🎙️ Eve Geddie (Amnesty International) 🎙️ Srishagon Abraham (#ColoredQollective) 🎙️ Enes Hocaoğulları (Youth delegate to the Council of Europe and ÜniKuir) Together, they discuss what it means to act strategically when institutions feel less reliable, how movements can protect hard-won rights under sustained pressure, and how solidarity across movements can be built without losing focus or momentum. This is a grounded, honest conversation about strategy, resilience, and organising in difficult times, while still holding onto the possibility of change. Check out ILGA-Europe's new Rainbow Map ranking 49 different countries in Europe according to the policies and laws that impact LGBTI people. Big news this year — Spain ranks No. 1 after 10 years of Malta holding the spot, showing the results of progressive forward momentum from the governing administration! 🇪🇸 🏅 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_sSjDhV

Last week we celebrated the annual ILGA-Europe Equality Fundraiser 🌈 This year's event was extra special because it marked the 30th anniversary of ILGA-Europe - three decades of working alongside changemakers to improve lives for LGBTI communities across the European region. It was wonderful to see so many supporters and allies not only show up but also donate generously. Huge appreciation to my colleagues in the ILGA-Europe team for helping to make the event such a success and to our headline sponsor Google for their ongoing support for more than a decade now. The Equality Fundraiser reflected on what we've collectively achieved over the past decades, but most importantly invited supporters of equality to be a changemaker with us as the work continues. In the words of our Executive Director A. Chaber: "You've heard tonight about thirty years of movement. Thirty years of legislation. Thirty years of people, extraordinary people, who believed that change was possible in spite of experiencing hate, exclusion, oppression, and who made change happen anyway. My job is to tell you what tonight actually is. It is a celebration. But also, it is a moment when we decide what happens next. (--) Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to winning. We have been doing this work for thirty years. We know what the money does. And tonight, we are asking you to be part of what comes next." 🇪🇺 Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting a workshop in the European Parliament on tackling hate speech in parliamentary debates and political communication. Together with fellow Members of Parliament and Assistants, we explored one of the central challenges facing modern democracies: How can we protect freedom of expression while standing firmly against hate speech and discrimination? The discussion covered: 🔹 The European Parliament's rules on hate speech and offensive language 🔹 Key court cases that have shaped the boundaries of free speech in politics 🔹 Practical parliamentary instruments to respond to discriminatory rhetoric 🔹 Strategies for countering hate speech both inside the chamber and on social media 🔹 The responsibility of elected representatives in fostering democratic debate A special thank you to ILGA-Europe, who co-organized the event and shared their expertise on the impact of hate speech on LGBTQI communities and democratic participation. Cianán Russell (they/them) added an important perspective to our discussion and highlighted why protecting dignity and equality remains essential for a healthy democracy. Thanks as well to my colleagues Marc Angel and Lucia Yar for their input! I am also grateful to everyone who joined, contributed questions, and engaged in such a thoughtful exchange. At a time when political discourse is becoming increasingly polarized, conversations like these are more important than ever. Let's fight together against hate speech! If you are interested in the topic and would like to know more, feel free to comment and we will send you the presentation :) #EuropeanParliament
