Old Ivy Road bridge project completed early
The Rt. 601 crossing over U.S. 29/250 in Albemarle County reopened Friday, May 22

Culpeper -- The Virginia Department of Transportation and Caton Construction Group reopened the Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) bridge over the U.S. 29/250 bypass in Albemarle County on Friday, May 22, more than a month ahead of schedule.
The $3.9 million project replaced the bridge deck and beams and refurbished bridge piers. The structure was also raised to increase vertical clearance for vehicles on U.S. 29/250 traveling under the bridge.
Drivers may experience intermittent overnight flagging operations in the area as contractors complete remaining items associated with the project.
Construction began Feb. 3, 2025. The project was originally scheduled for completion on July 1, 2026.
The bridge was built in 1961 and carries about 8,000 vehicles daily.
