Senator Risch Joins Senate DOGE Caucus, Introduces Legislation to Curb Wasteful Spending
Boise, ID (CBS2) — U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) has joined the Senate Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus, a new initiative aimed at reducing federal waste and tackling the nation’s $36 trillion debt.
Risch introduced the Zero-Based Budget Act, which would require federal agencies to justify all spending through a zero-based budgeting process every six years. The bill also calls for a 2% reduction in spending levels and removes the automatic continuation of current funding. However, the Department of Defense and National Nuclear Security Administration would be exempt.
“The reckless fiscal policies of recent years are a crushing burden on future generations,” Risch said.
Risch joins several Republican senators, including Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), in supporting the legislation, which aligns with the DOGE Caucus’s mission to cut unnecessary spending and promote economic growth.
