SMU wide receiver Rashee Rice will soon be catching passes from two-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes.

Rice was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 55th overall pick in Round 2 of the 2023 NFL draft.

Rice had 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022, setting the Mustangs' record for receiving yards in a season.

At the NFL scouting combine, Rice had a 41-inch vertical, ran a 4.51 40-yard dash and tied for the third-fastest 10-yard split. Rice also impressed at SMU's pro day last month.

The Richland alum committed to SMU over several Power Five offers, including Arizona State, California, Kansas and Texas Tech. He was one of the top wide receivers in Dallas-Fort Worth, catching 72 passes for 1,386 yards and 19 touchdowns during a first-team all-district junior season.

Rice has made it known that he was ready to continue SMU's legacy of churning out NFL receivers. Emmanuel Sanders, James Proche, Cole Beasley, Courtland Sutton and Danny Gray are among the SMU receivers to play in the NFL.

"I'm definitely going to be the next one," Rice said a year ago.
