D3hoops.com Team of the Week Presented by Scoutware - Week 7

Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette) of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team has earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week presented by Scoutware for games of Jan. 3-9, 2022.

Gray, who was also named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for men's basketball, is one of five Division III players to be recognized.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL
	Derek Gray (Madison, Wis./La Follette), Freshman, Guard Gray averaged 27.5 points on 47.8 percent shooting and added 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game last week to help the Warhawks win a pair of WIAC road games and improve to 4-0 in conference play. On Wednesday at No. 4 UW-Oshkosh, he posted a career-high 36 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals to help UW-Whitewater to an 82-78 overtime victory. He scored 10 points in the extra period alone, including a jumper that put UW-W ahead for good with 2:03 to play and a 3-pointer on the next possession that gave the team a four-point advantage. Three days later, Gray registered 19 points, three rebounds and two steals and hit the go-ahead jumper with 33 seconds left to help the Warhawks to a 77-72 triumph at UW-Eau Claire. The performance helped UW-Whitewater record its best start in league play since the 2014-15 season.
