Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (November 17) – Seven members of the FDU-Florham football team earned Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honors this year as the league announced its selections this morning.
Jimmy Robertson highlighted the awards this fall for the Devils as he became the first football coach at FDU-Florham to be named as the MAC Coach of the Year. In his first official year on the sidelines, Robertson guided his program to a 6-4 record, after the Devils were picked to finish last in the preseason poll, to a fifth place finish in the MAC and to an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Bowl Game for the first time since the 1999 season.
Quarterback
Anthony Caserta (Bronx, NY), wide receiver
Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) and defensive lineman
Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) were all placed on the All-MAC First Team, offensive lineman
Brendan Egan (Sugar Loaf, NY) and kicker
Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY) were placed on the All-MAC Second Team and
James Rosciano IV (Howell, NJ) earned All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades this fall. All six student-athletes earned their first career nods to the All-MAC squad in 2021.
Caserta completed 210 passes for 2487 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2021. His 2487 yards broke the 2017 single season record held by Jagger Green, his 25 touchdowns broke the single season record held by both Frank Plefka and Jagger Green and in just two seasons with the Devils has the second most passing yards in program history with 5,033. Caserta ranked first in the MAC in touchdowns and second in the league in passing yards this season.
Perez caught 15 touchdown passes and posted 997 receiving yards this year, which both led the conference in 2021. His 15 touchdown catches were the second most in all of NCAA Division III football this fall, while his 997 reception yards ranked 20th in the country this season. Perez caught at least one touchdown in eight of ten games this year highlighted by a three touchdown effort in a 31-20 win over Misericordia during Homecoming.
Hands was one of the best defenders in the MAC all season long as he tallied 57 total tackles and a single season program record 12 sacks as a senior. His 12 sacks broke Mike Gibson's record of 11.5 which was set back in 1994. Hands registered a fumble recovery touchdown in a 43-17 win at William Paterson on September 11 as well as a season-high three sacks in a 31-20 win against Misericordia on September 25.
Egan was a crucial member of FDU's offensive line this year as the Devils ranked first in the MAC with 28 total touchdowns and second in the conference with an average of 262.2 yards per game. Egan's efforts protected Caserta and helped make him one of the top quarterbacks in the league this year. FDU's offensive efficiency was marked at 139.8, which ranked only behind Stevenson University.
DiMedio converted on ten of 12 field goal attempts and made 31 of 35 extra points this fall. His ten field goals broke the single season record of eight that was set by Michael Rabasca back during the 2005 season. DiMedio hit his season long 32 yards twice against both Merchant Marine on September 3 and Alvernia University on November 6.
Rosciano picked up his first career All-MAC honor as he played in every game this fall as FDU's long snapper.
FDU (6-4) will host the Eastern College Athletic Conference's (ECAC) James Lynah Bowl on Saturday, November 20 at 12:00 pm against Saint Vincent College. This will be FDU's first bowl appearance since the 1999 season.
