Mage Breaker Micro Story #1
I began my writing career with short stories, beginning when I was in junior high school, so I thought it appropriate to write some very short stories leading up to Mage Breaker’s release.
Below is the first segment of the first micro story. Each segment is short, but they all fit together and offer insight (and maybe some easter eggs) into the Mage Breaker universe. I hope you enjoy them.
BUT before we get to the tasty tidbit, I want to let everyone know Mage Breaker will be up for preorder 8/21/2023 and its official release is 11/28/2023.
ALSO, if you’re interested in my comedic fantasy book, The Last Available, you will be able to preorder it 12/11/2023, and its release is scheduled for 3/26/2024.
Now, let’s get on with it…
Open Communications: Part 1
Garriak shifted in his chair, leaning forward and sipping from his glass of squama juice. The blue liquid’s pungent flavor ignited his taste buds and singed his throat as he swallowed it. He moved one of his game pieces forward on the Conquer board.
“You ever wonder,” he mused, reclining, “who was the first person to imbibe squama juice? Was it someone who knew what they were doing? Or was it simply some poor soul that ate a bunch of fermented berries and woke up hours later with a raging headache?”
Iksillix brought his own glass to his lips, savoring the sharp acidity and sweetness. He chuckled, setting the glass down on the short table between them and scrutinized the game before him.
“I imagine there are many accidents when making new discoveries. I can’t imagine how many of my people perished inventing new spells.”
“The Kithrak? Mess up spells? Bite your tongue!” Garriak laughed and swirled his drink. “I do suspect, when your people first discovered flocia, they probably had some accidents.”
“Indeed.”
“It’s always good to catch up with you, Iksillix, but I have a favor to ask.”
