US Senate candidate from Saco introduces 'GuilloTee' campaign merchandise
SACO (WGME) – A democrat from Saco hoping to challenge Senator Susan Collins this year unveiled a bold piece of campaign merchandise Wednesday.
Bre Kidman is a 31-year-old self-described democratic socialist running for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.
Kidman calls the shirts “GuilloTees,” and says they are merchandise that can’t be bought.
"The guillotine is a symbol of citizens rising up against an oppressive government where only the wealthy get to make decisions," Kidman said. "Every candidate wants to say they’ll get money out of politics, but our campaign is the only one in the Democratic primary that’s actively using the campaign process to do it. We felt the guillotine was a discussion-provoking symbol, and a reminder that if we don’t work to change the emphasis on wealth in our political process now, the fight only gets worse."
If elected, Kidman would be the first transgender and non-binary candidate to serve in the senate, meaning someone who identifies as neither a man nor a woman.
