GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College head football coach
Maurice Banks recently announced the addition of former Army assistant coach
Marcus Edwards as the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks' coach for the Bullets.
Edwards, who joined the staff in late March prior to the College's recent hiring freeze announcement, is the first official hire by Banks, who took over the helm in February.
"We are very excited to have Marcus join the program," said the head coach. "His passion for mentoring young men and his creativity on offense make him a great fit. We are looking for him to not only ignite our offense, but to help add to our culture by helping with the development of great leaders and men of great character."
Edwards served as the wide receivers' coach at his last two stops at Stony Brook University (2015-18) and most recently at the United States Military Academy at West Point (Army). Edwards was responsible for developing the game plan for the wide-outs and oversaw positional meetings and drills. In 2017, Stony Brook was named the ECAC Football Championship Subdivision Team of the Year after posting a 10-3 record and finishing 11th in the FCS national poll. His specific recruiting areas over the last five years have included Florida, central New Jersey, western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and central/western Tennessee.
Prior to Stony Brook, he put together two coaching stints at Wagner College (2009-12, 2014-15) surrounded by a stop at Bowling Green State University (2012-14). Edwards started as the wide receivers' coach in both of his tenures at Wagner and worked his way up to co-offensive coordinator. He also coached the Seahawks' junior varsity team from 2010-12. At Bowling Green, he served as the assistant wide receivers' coach and helped the team gain spots in the 2012 Military Bowl and the 2013 Caesars Bowl. Bowling Green won the Mid-American Conference (MAC) title in 2013.
Edwards was a four-year letterwinner at wide receiver at the University of South Florida. He started 31 games over his final three seasons and finished his career with 73 receptions, 928 yards, and three touchdowns. Edwards was a team captain for the Bulls and earned BIG EAST Academic All-Star recognition.
"I can't thank
Maurice Banks and AD
Mike Mattia enough for the opportunity," said Edwards. "I am extremely excited to be a part of a school and football program with such a rich history. The staff consists of a great group of guys, and watching some film from last year has me excited about some of our returning players as well. I can't wait to get on campus with the players, coaches, and support team to prepare for a great season."
Edwards graduated from South Florida with a degree in communications in 2007. He earned a master's in business management from Wagner in 2011.
