Police arrest, ID suspect in connection to the killing of Brooklyn social justice advocate

Police made an arrest Thursday in the fatal stabbing of 32-year-old Brooklyn activist Ryan Carson.
Police arrested Brian Dowling, 18, of Brooklyn. He faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the NYPD.
Authorities say Carson was killed just before 4 a.m. outside of a deli near the B46 bus stop on the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard.
According to police, Carson and a woman had been sitting on the bus bench when the suspect walked past them and began kicking mopeds to the ground. The pair approached the suspect who then grew agitated.
Police say the suspect asked Carson, “What are you looking at?” before attacking him with a knife. Carson was stabbed multiple times, including in the heart. First responders rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals Kings County, but he did not survive.
Friends and colleagues of Carson described him as a rising star and someone who was just trying to make Brooklyn a better place.
Law enforcement was at a home on Lafayette Avenue just down the block from where Carson was killed when the arrest was made.
