🤩🤩 NEW RESEARCH WORKSHOP 🤩🤩
Council Estate Princess is a new solo dance theatre show about growing up protestant in a council estate in Ireland. It is about otherness, fitting in, victim complex & is jam packed full of contradictions. How can this princess ‘save’ herself and become the queen she always needed?
I was lucky enough to be awarded an online residency from Stopgap Dance’s Open Dialogo programme supported by Oriente Occidente to use the residency to research international connections to the themes of the show. As part of my residency I have worked with Artist @elianadie from Trento discussing the intersection of class, arts and disability. We have played with dance and writing exercises that will feed into a big outreach project.
As part of my residency I now want to open the workshop up to other artists who want to be part of this discussion. I am hoping to meet other artists who have had a similar experience to me and see how we can meet on common ground. The workshop will be in English with Italian translation available.

- The session will begin with an intro to the project

About Sarah
Sarah Blanc (she/her) is a neurodivergent council estate princess from Ireland, based in London. She is Artistic Director of Moxie Brawl- a spicy inclusive dance theatre company who make work that your mum would love. Their award winning performances have been described as ‘gloriously shambolic‘, ‘wholly absorbing’, ‘endearingly witty’ and ‘definitely the most fun you’ll have at a dance show’. Moxie Brawl creates work for the outdoors, indoors and places where dance shouldn’t be.
Sarah is one third of Annie Vicky Sarah- a trio of collaborators who are questioning inclusive dance practices within creative settings with Annie Hanauer and Vicky Malin.
As a freelance choreographer/movement director/associate director, some of her credits include Im a Phoenix, Bitch, Opera Mums (Bryony Kimmings) Pacifists Guide To The War On Cancer (Complicite, Bryony Kimmings), The Dan Daw Show, EXXY (Dan Daw Creative Projects), Oliver Cromwell Is Really Very Sorry (Xnthony Ltd), and organisations such as Greenwich Dance, Royal Opera House, All Change, GOSH Arts, Candoco Dance Company and The Place.
About Elia
Elia Zeno Covolan (they/them) is an artist, graphic designer, accessibility consultant, and educator. They are part of Al.Di.Qua Artists, the first Italian professional association imagined, created, and led by disabled art workers. They also take care of the visual identity of the Treat it Queer Foundation.
As a consultant and trainer, they support non-profits, theatres, universities, and other organizations in creating inclusive and accessible spaces and content.
Their work focuses on producing content that centers marginalized subjectivities and on translating complex concepts into accessible visual and textual forms. They adopt a multidisciplinary and intersectional approach, combining tools from qualitative sociology, design thinking, and queer and crip studies.
Elia created the Iconic Accessibility Toolkit, a set of best practices and symbols already used by numerous cultural organizations across Europe to communicate the accessibility of their events and spaces. The project began in 2023 during the Risktakers Fellowship by SUPERRR LAB and the Allianz Foundation.
They are a non-binary, neurodivergent, and disabled person.
Dialogo aperto Laboratorio aperto con Sarah Blanc
Council Estate Princess è un nuovo spettacolo di teatro-danza che racconta la crescita di un protestante in un quartiere popolare in Irlanda. Parla di alterità, adattamento, complesso della vittima ed è pieno di contraddizioni. Come può questa principessa “salvarsi” e diventare la regina di cui ha sempre avuto bisogno?
Ho avuto la fortuna di ricevere una delle residenze online del programma Open Dialogo di StopGap, sostenuto da Oriente Occidente, e di utilizzare la residenza per ricercare connessioni internazionali con i temi dello spettacolo. Nell’ambito della mia residenza ho lavorato con l’artista Elia Covolan di Trento discutendo dell’intersezione tra classe, arti e disabilità, e ho giocato con esercizi che hanno generato scrittura creativa e danza.
È arrivato il momento di aprire il workshop ad altri artisti che vogliono partecipare a questa discussione. Spero di incontrare altri artisti che hanno avuto un’esperienza simile alla mia e vedere come possiamo incontrarci su un terreno comune. Il workshop sarà in inglese con traduzione in italiano.

Su Sarah Blanc
Sarah Blanc (lei/lui) è una principessa neurodivergente delle case popolari irlandesi che vive a Londra. È direttrice artistica di Moxie Brawl, una compagnia di teatro-danza inclusiva e piccante che fa lavori che piacerebbero anche a tua madre. I loro spettacoli, vincitori di premi, sono stati descritti come “gloriosamente sconvolgenti”, “completamente coinvolgenti”, “accattivanti e spiritosi” e “sicuramente i più divertenti che potrete vedere in uno spettacolo di danza”. Moxie Brawl crea lavori per l’esterno, per l’interno e per luoghi dove la danza non dovrebbe essere.

Su Elia Covolan
Elia Zeno Covolan (loro) è un artista, graphic designer, consulente per l’accessibilità ed educatore. Fanno parte di Al.Di.Qua Artists, la prima associazione professionale italiana immaginata, creata e guidata da operatori artistici disabili. Si occupano anche dell’identità visiva della Fondazione Treat it Queer.
Come consulenti e formatori, supportano organizzazioni non profit, teatri, università e altri enti nella creazione di spazi e contenuti inclusivi e accessibili.
Il loro lavoro si concentra sulla produzione di contenuti che mettono al centro le soggettività emarginate e sulla traduzione di concetti complessi in forme visive e testuali accessibili. Adottano un approccio multidisciplinare e intersezionale, combinando strumenti della sociologia qualitativa, del design thinking e degli studi queer e crip.
Elia ha creato l’Iconic Accessibility Toolkit, un insieme di buone pratiche e simboli già utilizzati da numerose organizzazioni culturali in tutta Europa per comunicare l’accessibilità dei loro eventi e spazi.
