The Oberlin College Athletics Department welcomes alumni, parents, and fans of Oberlin College baseball to celebrate the career of longtime head coach
Adrian Abrahamowicz on May 7, which will coincide with the Yeomen's regular-season finale against Hiram College.
Abrahamowicz, who will officially be retiring from the College following the 2022 season, led Oberlin to its only North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in 2015 and completely revivtatlized the baseball program throughout his 11 seasons from 2011-2021.
Abrahamowicz guided the Yeomen into the NCAC Tournament three times (2013, 2015, 2017), coaching the team to school-best totals in overall wins (23) and conference wins (12) in 2017. In 2015, he led the team to three victories at the NCAA Regionals, becoming the first and only coach in program history to do so.
"Without a doubt, Adrian elevated the competitive expectations and success of our baseball program." Director Athletics
Natalie Winkelfoos said. "Oberlin College Baseball is better because of Adrian's leadership. The passion and care he carried for his student-athletes was always on display and always respected. We cannot thank him enough for the time and talent he gifted us for the last 18 years as both an assistant and head coach."
In addition to coaching a plethora of All-Region and All-NCAC selections, he mentored all-time hits leader Jeff Schweighoffer '15, single-season hits leader Brendan Mapes '19, and former professional baseball player, and current Hiram Head Coach, Phil Brua '11 whose name is scattered throughout the Oberlin record books as one of the best pitchers in school history.
The 2013 NCAC Coach of the Year, Abrahamowicz had six seasons of 17 or more wins and three years with 20 or more victories. He was an assistant coach with the program since 2004 before taking over as head coach in the fall of 2010.
"I will always cherish my time coaching all these guys throughout the years and the memories we created together," Abrahamowicz said. "We experienced some great success and did things that had never been done here before. To all of my former players, thank you for everything."
In addition to honoring the current senior class prior to first pitch of game one of the doubleheader, there will be an on-field ceremony in-between games to celebrate all of the players who played for Adrian and a recognition of the accomplishments they achieved together. Following game two, those in attendance are welcomed to attend a post-game social inside the Knowlton Athletics Complex Social Space where appetizers and drinks will be provided.
