BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (WVVA) - Local economic leaders are looking to help aspiring entrepreneurs capitalize on the region’s growing “adventure tourism” industry.

On Tuesday, those wanting to start or grow their business are invited to the Bluefield Arts Center for a class on how you can do just that.

Organized by the “Bluefield Economic Development Authority (BEDA), “The Hatfield and McCoy Effect” will let participants learn from adventure tourism experts, such as Jeff Lusk, the executive director of the Hatfield McCoy trail. There, you’ll learn about the opportunities to be found through the trail and adventure tourism, by meeting the needs of visitors to the area in things like lodging, restaurants, and more.

Jim Spencer, the executive director of BEDA, says the Hatfield and McCoy trail presents a huge opportunity for local businesses that only gets bigger year after year.

“There’s a couple times during the year that people spend money pretty loosely: Christmas and gifts, and when they’re on vacation, and so a lot of these folks are coming in with a lot of disposable income, and they want to have a good time, so we need to make sure they have opportunities to where they can have a good time but also spend money in our local economy,” says Spencer.

The Hatfield and McCoy affect is free and has no registration needed, and you can take part whether your business is based out of Bluefield or not.

If you would like to take part, it will be held in the Bluefield Arts Center theater tomorrow at 6:00 pm. You can find out more information by emailing jspencer@bluewv.org or by going to this website.
