Another Macomb County resident has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection of the U.S. Capitol where Congress was in the process of verifying the electoral votes for the 2020 Presidential election.

Tim Levon Boughner, 41, of Romeo, was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer with a dangerous weapon and other crimes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He was arrested Tuesday in Lapeer County, and made his initial appearance Wednesday in federal court in Detroit.

At a detention hearing Thursday, Magistrate Judge Jonathan Grey ordered Boughner to be held without bond and federal marshals to transport him to authorities in Washington, D.C. to await legal proceedings.

Prosecutors say Boughner also is facing charges of engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers with a dangerous weapon, among other offenses.

Boughner was the target of a lengthy effort by FBI agents to identify and locate him, court records show.

According to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court of Washington, D.C., federal agents circulated photos of the suspect, often zeroing in on a distinctive star-shaped tattoo near his right wrist. Online investigators referred to him by the moniker “#blackpufferwhitescarf.”

Authorities used video footage and photos from the insurrection that showed Boughner in the crowd and say he used a chemical spray on officers attempting to defend the Capitol. Around the same time, people in the crowd were throwing objects and deploying multiple chemical sprays against law enforcement officers.

Later, federal prosecutors wrote, Boughner bragged on social media about his actions that day. In a post stating he “started spraying” at the Capitol and “f—- those cops up.”

On Feb. 17, he posted, “I have to share. My life has not been the same since this day … I still don’t know how I ended up on the capital steps having a pepper spray fight with the capital police,” prosecutors said in a criminal complaint.

Investigators amassed numerous other Facebook posts allegedly written by the suspect that show numerous comments supporting former President Donald Trump after the 2020 presidential election and stating he would be president for four more years, along with more screen shots from the video taken on Jan. 6.

Agents also secured a search warrant for his cellphone, which tracked it near the Capitol building on Jan. 6, according to the criminal filing.

Court records show Boughner has also been convicted of breaking and entering in the late 1990s and arrested by the Romeo Police Department in 2017. The nature of the offense was not known.

In the 11 months since Jan. 6, more than 700 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol. At least five of them are from Macomb County.

The investigation remains ongoing.
