
Soccer Alum Hellstrom Selected to Canadian World Cup Roster

KENT, Ohio – Kent State soccer alumnae Jenna Hellstrom (2013-16) has received the prestigious honor of being selected to the Team Canada Women's Soccer roster for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. Hellstrom, the most decorated player in program history, will be the first Golden Flash to appear on a World Cup roster. The Women's World Cup will be held this summer, opening on June 7 and closing with the final on July 7 in France.
Hellstrom shattered multiple school records and was a second team All-American and a two-time Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year award winner. She is the career-leader in Kent State history in goals (37), assists (33), points (107),) multiple goal games (6) and multiple assist games (5). She helped Kent State to its most successful season in program history when the Flashes won the 2016 MAC Tournament Championship for the first time and made an NCAA Tournament appearance.
She has spent the last two years playing professionally in Sweden for IF Örebro, a team in the country's top-tier league, Damallsvenskan. Hellstrom, who hails from Sudbury, Ontario, has been participating in international friendlies and the Algarve Cup for Team Canada.
The Canadian National Team is in Group E of the Women's World Cup. They will take on Cameroon in their first match on June 10. They will follow their opening match with a matchup against New Zealand on June 15 and the Netherlands on June 20. The Round of 16 is scheduled for June 22-25 with the Quarterfinals scheduled for June 27-29. The Semifinals will take place July 2-3 with the World Cup Final scheduled for July 7.Â
