After learning that $31 Billion of food is wasted every year in Canada, I was shocked. I simply couldn't wrap my mind around the extent of food waste at that level, especially with four million Canadians experiencing food insecurity. I believe our leaders can and should change this.

That same day in January, 2018, I launched a Change.org petition, asking that supermarkets be required to donate all unsold food products to charity such as food banks. It was the petition platform I knew best, and it was one that I've seen successfully changing status quo in all areas required, including a similar problem in France three years prior.

While youth such as myself are often overlooked in important issues, I've found Change.org to embrace us instead. Petitions like this show Canada that when youth are given a platform to speak, Canada can change for the better.
