Heinrich Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Jakubowski Claims First Team Honors

Rothwell and Heinrich Each Earn All-Freshman Team Honors
New York, N.Y. -- Coming off a season that saw her lead the Creighton women's soccer team with 11 goals, tied for the second most in the BIG EAST, freshman Skylar Heinrich earned the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year award on Monday, Nov. 4th. Two other Bluejays were recognized in the conference's post-season awards list as senior Taryn Jakubowski was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and freshman Jordy Rothwell earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
In addition to her Freshman of the Year honor, Heinrich also earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team as well as the BIG EAST Freshman Team. Skylar closed the season with 11 goals and a pair of assists to finish fourth in the conference in points scored with 24. Four of her 11 goals were scored in conference matches, including the game-winning goal against DePaul on Sept. 28. Heinrich played in each of Creighton's 18 contests, starting 17. She logged a combined 1,553 minutes with three game-winning goals on the season.
Jakubowski earned her second consecutive All-BIG EAST First Team nod, closing the season with three goals and two assists (eight total points). The Illinois native started all 18 matches for Creighton this season, logging a combined 1,575 minutes (the second highest total on the team). During her Bluejay career, Jakubowski delivered 17 goals and 11 assists, playing a combined 6,163 minutes.
Freshman Jordy Rothwell also earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team as the Wisconsin native led all Bluejays with 1,617 minutes played this season. She also contributed one goal in Creighton's 2-1 win over Kansas City on Sept. 17, and an assist in the Bluejays' final road match of the season at St. John's on Oct. 27th.
